Allow multi-edit selection of matching layers within the same frame

Do ya’ll have any workflow recommendations since I can’t select matching layers within the same frame for working on complex/large tables? It would be very helpful to be able to select all matching layers within a single frame and edit them simultaneously.

this is so stupid, every new feature they rolled out in the past 1.5 years is half-*ssed or has some caveats

Hello @dvaliao - could you kindly post a use case for multi-edit / multi-select within a section? How are folks using sections such that this is an effective tool?

I suppose if you are mocking up a number of frames representing different states of the same page and want to select the same element on the page (like a “header” or a content block), this could be useful (but begs the question: why hasn’t the designer turned that element into a component and used instances).

If this is the use case, then I would argue that it’s just as common, if not more common, to have repeating same-named layers within a “page” (ie: frame) that are not yet component instances.

Until I read this definitive answer, I’ve been scratching my head about the multi-select “feature” because every single time I have had a need for it and clicked it, I get the “no matching layers to select in this section” error. This comes up a few times a day!

The new multi-edit tool is AMAZING! Literally such a game changer.
It has one major limitation though, which is that is only works across a section. I wish I could sometimes select-all the like objects within a single frame (e.g. if I have a repeat pattern on a page, like 5 sections all with a section header, and I want to select all the headers and change the font size).
It would be great if the multi-edit worked at different levels than just the section level, maybe by holding down an additional key or by changing the “level” of the tool in the bottom toolbar, the same way you can change the frame tool or shape tool.

Second this. I use the Select Layers plugin throughout the day, every day. It’s a lifesaver, and why it’s not native functionality is kind of baffling.

It allows you to quickly select multiple similar objects within a single parent frame. Currently it only uses the name of the object (or selects instances of the same component) but I’m open to feedback for how to refine selection to better handle your needs.

It’s especially great paired with my plugin Master to select similar items and then create a single component from them, keeping all the differences in items as overrides.

I also highly recommend setting up a custom shortcut to access the plugin instantly without having to remember the name.
