We have a design system set up with tokens (variables) to enable all components to switch between light and dark mode.

For developers/viewers to see what a screen should look like in Dark mode, we have to duplicate that screen. But as an editor I can set the colour mode variable at the Page level to Dark and all screens on the canvas/page turn to dark mode.

If developers/viewers could also do this, I could delete the dark mode duplicates of every screen and only have one copy of each screen, defaulted to light mode, and then just toggle dark mode as needed.

This would be much more efficient on memory usage and maintenance.

We need it ASAP to change between language mode!!! I have overcomplicated process, because this feature is missing.

Still waiting for this feature to be implemented

I find it bizarre resources are being spent on silly things like FigPals and not on smaller, time-saving, memory-conserving, file size-reducing features such as this. I effectively have to double everything from full page layouts to load times by duplicating all the page designs so the developer can get a color mode visual before implementation. Even just a full page-level variable mode switch, and not individual frames, would be immensely valuable. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is a very necessary feature!

  • As a developer, I need to see the same view in multiple configuration. It would be great if I can click on some view and expand it to 2x+ copies with different configs: light/dark mode, small/bigger device (spacing/paddings). I want to explore the copies, but edit allowed to first origin view only.

Yes, allowing Devs and viewers to switch the modes is a must have and will save a lot of time.

Really need this feature!

We really need this feature too. I refuse to duplicate all screens just because of dark mode but it’s awkward that our devs must have Full seat just because of this feature.

This is now possible per screen in the focus view of Dev Mode - you can now override modes at the top:

So it’s something, but it only works screen by screen, and you have to find it / know that focus view even exists. I’d much rather we had this option at the page level to quickly preview all screens in dark mode.

@Victor Loux I spent 20 minutes looking for this feature and then I read at the top of the page https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/23919923330455-Dev-Mode-focus-view that it’s available only for Organization and Enterprise plans. So that’s not really an option either because we’re on Professional.

Wow, that’s crazy, I did not realise that. I don’t get why it’s restricted -- not making this available to developers half-defeats the purpose of having modes, if it means we still have to maintain dark mode copies of every screen for their reference.

Commenting a +1 as it’s permitted in this forum. Burying in focus mode is crazy!
