Alignment Options in Image Fills

As I was looking for a way to do this natively in Figma, I came across this concept article on Medium. In the article, Андрей Насонов (Andrey Nasonov) describes adding the option to choose alignment in the image settings beyond the default centered. This would be a simple but huge improvement to image settings, especially for responsive design.

Here’s his example of how that might look on the Properties Panel for images:

If anyone has found any way to work around this other than individually cropping images for different container widths, pls hmu! 🙏

Just as I thought. Figma is turning into Adobe - prepares fancy features, abandoning basic functions.

I will raise you one: we should be able to use Images as Component Variants. We are often designing complex marketing sites. The way we manage it now is a time consuming workaround. We have to create shapes, manage the fills and the fill styles, and then make them Component Variants. We should just be able to add our Image Library and allow swaps the same way we do with Components.

Just started using Figma coming from Illustrator. It’s absolutely shocking that this isn’t possible in a modern digital design tool in 2024.

Really need this. I wish instead of useless UI updates Figma would listen to its users and actual problems we need to solve every day.

I would argue that we need vertical and horizontal percentage instead of top/center/right etc for more control.

This needs to happen, especially with responsive prototyping happening. Screen sizes change and background-position has been around since the Internet Explorer days.
