Add pinch to zoom in and out interactions in prototypes

Often when prototyping tools/UIs with canvases, a few fundamental interactions are needed.

  1. Scroll up/down
  2. Scroll left/right
  3. Zoom in/out

Unfortunately, that last zoom in/out one isn’t possible in Figma as far as I can tell. It would be really great to incorporate this type of interaction in the same place that frame scrolling can be specified.

Prototyping use cases:

  1. UIs with Maps (tracking apps, location apps, travel apps, delivery apps, etc)
  2. UIs with creative canvases (illustrator, photoshop, Figma, sketch, etc)
  3. UIs for analysis tools (spatial biology analysis, general sample analysis, etc)
  4. UIs for brainstorming tools (Figjam, Miro, google whiteboard, etc)

This feels like it would be relatively basic to add but what do I know about programing lol. Anyways, would be really awesome and add a new dimension of interactivity to canvas based tools.

looking forward …
Any news on that topic ?

This features does exist

Use these settings:

@Ruby6, those settings are for a static zoom level. People want to manually adjust the zoom level back and forth, especially with pinch actions.

I’m finding it would be very useful for zooming when making sitemaps. I’m using prototype mode to allow expand/collapse interactions, but it’s tedious not being able to zoom in and out freely for a large sitemap.

@Damon_Tolhurst , thanks for drawing. 🖼

Yup, I need this too. I’m making large scale diagrams (similar to sitemaps as someone said below), and as a whole it’s large and complicated but each little area or section is very tight and has the dimensions of a 16:9 slide.

So, it would be very helpful to allow Prototypes to “pinch” or “click in” to zoom into an area within itself. Similarly, to then expand out, zoom out, etc.

I was just trying to layout an update to the client in a similar paradigm and was reminded it doesn’t work. See images below:

Definitely need this! With AI specifically there is a huge need for interactive canvas based designs. Without this ability it’s super hard to get a functional prototype together to test with users. Makes it super expoensive on the dev side, because we’ll have to prototype in software instead.

This is so much needed. I'm paying for a separate prototyping software right now just so that I can give my clients a way to pinch to zoom.

Figma’s main interface is clearly far more capable than this - why don't you just give the same features to the presentation mode? :/

2 years later. It should have been here by now.

Why has such a fundamental and widely requested feature still not been implemented?😔
