We are able to use icon fonts as icons in Figma (e.g.: Font Awesome, Material Icons) but the new Material Symbols font isn’t built into Figma yet. It would be so cool if Figma implemented this…

Support Material Symbols variable font, so Material Symbols can be used directly as an icon font. Material Symbols and Icons - Google Fonts
Material Icon font is supported within Figma, but has been deprecated since 2022.

As well as Material Icons Outline font
We’re currently setting up some icon libraries for our Native app.. iOS app uses SF Symbols, and we can use variables to map to the Material Icon or Symbol for our Android app. It works flawlessly -- if the user has Material Icon Outline and Material Symbols installed on their local machine. (my personal Mac for example)…
Problem is - our work machines are locked down and we can’t install fonts. So if you could kindly add support for them in Figma we’d be so happy.
