When I press Command + T, it opens a new file window where I can create, search, or select a recent file. I usually use this to open my existing files. I used to use this process to open my existing file.
If there were a keyboard shortcut to directly focus on the search bar, it would make it much easier for me to quickly open an existing file without using the mouse.
