Accessing nested properties within a Slot

When adding components to a Slot and attempting to surface nested properties I see a message that nested properties can not be surfaced with Slots. This severly limits their usefulness to us since we are creating multiple composable components using sub components with properties and having to drill in to each instance in a multi-item Slot is very time-consuming.
