I built a Figma plugin to export compressed PDFs faster (Turbo PDF Exporter)
Hey everyone 👋
Â
Exporting PDFs from Figma has always been slow and heavy for me. A file with a lot of images easily ends up at 50-100 MB, takes a while to export, and then I'd have to run it through an online compressor and hope the links and quality survived. So I built a plugin that exports compressed PDFs directly inside Figma: Turbo PDF Exporter.
Â
You open it, it picks up all your top-level frames, you sort them how you like, choose a DPI preset (72 / 150 / 300 / 300-prepress), and export.
Â
What it does:
- compresses your PDF by up to 90% while keeping vectors sharp
- exports multi-page files quickly, and Figma stays responsive while it works
- adds bleed (mm, cm, in) and automatic crop marks for print-ready files
- converts to CMYK, RGB, or Grayscale, with DPI presets (72, 150, 300, 300-prepress)
- sorts pages by name, layer order, or visual layout or custom order
- keeps your prototype links clickable, with optional link outlines
- embeds fonts so the PDF looks the same everywhere
- password-protects the PDF if you need to
- exports in one click, with a clean UI for selecting and organizing frames
- runs locally, so your files never leave your machine
On one of my own files with 35 pages, the export went from 61.3 MB to 16.4 MB, saving 44.9 MB (73%). On design-heavy files with fewer images I've seen savings up to 90%. It depends on how image-heavy your file is.
One thing to know upfront: the free version gives you 10 exports with the Pro features (unlimited exports, CMYK, security), and after that those are on Turbo PDF Pro. Pricing: https://www.sonicworks.online/turbo-pdf/pricing

It's still early, so there will be rough edges. A couple of things I'd love to hear:
- How big are your PDFs usually, and where do they need to go (email, client, upload form)?
- If you try it on your heaviest file, how many MB did you save, and did anything break?
Share the page count and settings and I'll look into any issue. Feedback form: https://app.youform.com/forms/kmgqk8qj
