Did you actually test UI3 on power users? I suspect not given that the simple and intuitive UI2 is now ruined by annoying extra clicking and UI elements not being placed together. This “update” is a backwards step and we as users should be able to choose and configure how we want the UI for our purposes. The bottom centre floating tool bar is just wrong for power users.
Couldn’t agree more. I really hope they give an option for people who prefer the previous UI.
Another thing i don’t understand is why they have separated horizontal and vertical spacing, they are not even close to each other! It is indeed a backwards step and the bottom bar is making our work space even smaller.. please guys don’t force us to use this.
I’m using the macOS desktop app, and it’s really frustrating that Figma keeps switching me back to the new UI automatically.
I prefer the legacy UI for my workflow, and having to manually switch back every time is very disruptive.
Please provide an option to permanently stay on the old UI (or at least remember the user’s choice across sessions).
Thank you for your work, but please consider respecting user preferences — forcing the new design hurts productivity.
I am genuinely so angry that they are forcing this. Was this just the brainchild of some bored designer at Figma, or have they devoted research to the update that establishes without any doubt that this change is highly in demand and has been received enthusiastically by the majority of users?
Nobody I have spoken with likes the change. The only people who are indifferent are those who aren’t proficient with Figma and I am still training/onboarding to the tool. I’m glad the Adobe purchase didn’t proceed, but this space needs more competition.
A few months ago, when UI3 was new, many people had already discussed that it was not good, but it seemed that Figma just didn't want to listen. I myself really dislike UI3, but there's nothing I can do about it. Many people in the community dislike UI3, and now they make decisions that don't listen to user voices. Since they insist on going their own way, there's nothing I can do about it
you are not alone! i am SO stressed about this bad UI update. This is a major f-up on Figma’s part and i tried using the new UI a few times and went back to the old one every time. i hate the new ui so much. the bottom bar is SO bad. i can never get into my work with it hanging out there.. i usually like to be kind about this stuff because i know it’s tough, but holy crap this new UI sucks. it is not faster or more productive. things are hidden and undiscoverable. This was designed in a bubble.
At least with the horrible UI2 I could switch back why am I stuck trapped in this hellscape? I don’t see an improvement, please let users switch back it’s a shackle to people who know what they need to do and need to learn asinine way to do the same task with ~10 extra steps and much time wasted re-learning the interface.
I work for myself and my time is chargeable to my clients for doing their work, I am not making them pay for me to learn the software I profess to be an professional in, this is unreasonable… so who do I invoice at Figma?? - you know: for wasting my time in doing retraining I didn’t need to do and taking extra time doing monkey work to accomplish tasks I could have done beforehand with less steps?
Why do you hate your customers?
i just got the update and im already dead today. some work ive been blazing through is now reduced to a snail’s crawl. what a huge disappointment. i have to keep my screen in full view now because of the stupid bottom bar and i cant find anything anymore. i use figma for prototypes, illustrations, and other visuals while i build and code, so it’s usually beside tools im actively using while designing visuals for concepts.
thanks for forcing all of us who work for super fast-paced companies through this ridiculousness, Figma! i dont even want to use this in my job anymore and today, i dont even think i want this job anymore. FFFFFFFFF
They didn’t test anything. These forums are lit up with angry users.
I haven’t seen a single post praising UI3. There are hundreds of posts calling for it to be reverted, with thousands and thousands of comments saying the same. Everybody is on the same page, UI3 was a mistake.
It’s so obvious they messed up, the question is how long will it take them to do the right thing and change it back.
its literally an awful update we need UI2 back. i was even surprised how no one talked about UI3 being forced down our throats. like what the hell do you mean i have 3 days to get used to an awful version of a tool i love?
There seems a radio silence from Figma on this UI3 mess. I hope they are listening.

Because UX is about ignoring the user… Maybe UI3 should be renamed FI3 because it’s not the user’s interface it’s Figma’s Interface based on features nobody asked for or wanted or want to live with.

This. It’s ruining our output trying to learn the clunky and unneeded UI rework.

The approach they use in UI3 (and their complete silence on power users' feedback) makes me think they're targeting an amateur/unprofessional audience, for making simple web-sites, banners etc. So they just degraded Figma's UI accordingly.
And yes, now there’s a need for a new tool for product design work.

I agree with your perspective. Figma's new product updates seem like rushed attempts to upgrade their offerings in order to expand their user base and establish their own ecosystem. Features like the whiteboard functionality, enhanced UI design tools, AI capabilities, and other additions all appear aimed at raising Figma's global profile. These accelerated transformations might stem from the company's need to pivot urgently after the failed acquisition by Adobe, compelling them to demonstrate independent growth potential and innovation momentum.”urgently seeking change”
The UI3 is terrible! It feels like being designed by someone who doesn’t actually use Figma! Previously I can still change back to old UI, now I have no choice. Please change back to the previous UI, it was good enough. Not every “cleaner UI” “redesign” is necessary. Terrible terrible redesign!
I was highly amused during the live demos at Config when even the presenters had trouble finding what they were looking for. Kind of tells the whole story.
Unfortunately, all the requests to keep UI2 as an option will go unheard. No way are they going to maintain 2 separate UIs indefinitely.

I still hate UI2… I was happy in the unbroken version of the UI.
The new UI3 is uncomfortable and hard to use. Many useful features are hidden, the workflow is slower, and the overall layout feels less intuitive. Please bring back the previous interface or at least give users the option to switch between the old and new versions. This change is seriously affecting my productivity.
