Hello, Figma team.
I want to provide feedback on a long-standing interaction design issue that has been bothering me: the pink spacing adjustment handle that appears when hovering between items in an auto-layout.
Frankly speaking, this feature does more harm than good in my daily work. Its original intention may have been to allow for quick adjustments, but when dealing with complex components that contain many nested items, the specific problems are:
-
It obscures elements: The handle often covers the very small elements I am trying to select, making precise selections difficult without excessive zooming.
-
It's accidentally triggered: Most of the time, my intent is simply to select an item, but the handle gets triggered unintentionally. This greatly interrupts my workflow and breaks my focus.
In most cases, I choose to input precise values in the property panel on the right to control spacing, as this method is more controllable and aligns better with the idea of component-based design. This shortcut on the canvas is almost useless to me, yet it has become a persistent visual and operational obstacle.
I strongly suggest that you provide an option to disable this feature, either in the preferences or in the view menu. Please return control to the users and let us choose whether we need this shortcut on the canvas.
Thank you for your listening.
