Icon Thumbnails in layer list + variable picker menu

I don’t need the layer thumbnails in the layer list. They clutter the layout. Is there a way to turn them off? 

The right-hand rail used to have variable pickers that let you select a padding or size variable from the attached design system, but they went away. This is going to slow down work in Figma significantly. Is there a way to turn those back on?
