Hello Figma Team,
I've been a long time Figma user and have relied on it extensively for website design. Unfortunately, over the past year I've found the overall experience becoming increasingly frustrating. Many workflows that were once fast and intuitive now require significantly more effort, and it feels like the focus has shifted away from the needs of production designers.
Some of the issues I've encountered include:
- Copying a layer from one frame to another no longer pastes it in the same relative position. This used to be a huge time saver when working across multiple artboards.
- Selecting layers has become much more difficult, especially within nested Auto Layouts. I often find myself drilling through multiple layers just to select the object I want.
- Auto Layout has become overly complex. Small changes frequently produce unexpected results, making simple edits unnecessarily time consuming.
- Changing layouts, such as moving from a four column grid to a three column grid, often stretches or distorts images instead of preserving their aspect ratio.
- Fixed position elements sometimes disappear in Prototype mode, even when configured correctly.
- Basic production tasks, such as replacing layers, updating components, or editing repeated content, feel much slower than they used to.
- The redesigned interface requires more clicks to access common tools and settings that were previously much easier to find.
- There are too many hidden interactions and context dependent behaviors. It's often difficult to predict what Figma is going to do.
- Performance on larger website projects has become noticeably slower, particularly when using Auto Layout and nested components.
- The application increasingly feels optimized for enterprise product design systems rather than agencies producing marketing websites.
As someone who leads a digital agency, our designers spend thousands of hours in Figma every year. We appreciate the new capabilities you've introduced, but many of them come at the expense of speed and efficiency for everyday production work.
I would love to see a stronger focus on simplifying common workflows and giving designers more control over how the application behaves. Even an option to restore some of the legacy behaviors would make a significant difference.
Figma remains an incredibly powerful platform, but I hope future updates place equal emphasis on usability and efficiency for experienced designers.
Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback.
Kind regards,
John Atkins
