✍️ Figma Draw — What we heard and what’s next

👋 Thank you for all the incredible feedback on Figma Draw!

Since launching Figma Draw at Config, we’ve been blown away by your thoughtful reactions — the excitement, critiques, and ideas are shaping what comes next. We’re listening closely, and we’re grateful for this community’s energy and insights.

Now, we want to share the top themes we’ve heard and how we’re thinking about what’s ahead.

👂 Top Themes from the Community

1. You’re eager to use Figma Draw on iPad

Many of you want to bring your drawing workflows to the iPad, where sketching feels more natural and accessible.

“Is there a plan to bring this to iPad? I do all of my initial sketching there before moving to desktop. Having Draw available would make that transition seamless.”
— @oliverr

“Would love to use this on my iPad, where drawing feels more natural. Hope support comes soon!”
— @danam

2. You’re asking for more foundational drawing tools

You’ve highlighted some key tools you'd expect from a robust drawing experience — from erasers to improved path editing and smoother curve creation.

“An eraser tool is a must. I get Draw is early, but for a tool about drawing, it’s missing the basics.”
— @phat

“Would love a better join-path or combine-path functionality. Right now it's very manual.”
— @tancrede

“I think Draw needs a curve drawing tool like Illustrator’s. Making smooth shapes with the pen tool takes too long.”
— @lisaq

3. You want smoother UI interactions and workflows

Draw introduces new ways of working — and you’ve told us some things feel clunky. Better toolbar placement, clearer mode switching, and smoother onboarding are high on your list.

“Please let me move the Draw toolbar — having it stuck in the corner makes it hard to access when working in fullscreen.”
— @joshy

“Draw is cool, but switching modes and figuring out where things are feels clunky. Hoping for smoother integration into my normal workflow.”
— @monicag

What we're doing with this feedback

We’ve already shared your feedback with our Figma Draw team — and in some areas, work is already in progress. Here’s what we can share so far:

  • iPad Support – We hear you on support for more devices, it’s a great callout. While we don’t have anything to share just yet, feedback like this helps inform where we focus next.

  • Additional Drawing Tools – Since Config we have launched variable width strokes and will be launching more new drawing capabilities very soon! For a comprehensive review on drawing tools keep an eye on this Figma Learn article: Draw with illustration tools.

  • UI Improvements – We’re actively exploring refinements and will continue to iterate based on your feedback, keep it coming!

We'll continue to update any relevant forum topics and our release notes as Figma Draw improvements roll out. In the meantime, if you’re looking to get hands-on with Figma Draw, try one of these step-by-step projects:

I would like the ability to snap the pen tool to any point on any shape or frame.

Is there a way to add custom fonts to Figma Sites? I work with a custom Adobe Font all the time in prototypes and internal files. I tried using the same components to create a Figma Site, but the font is not loading. All the text is showing up in Helvetica instead.

Not yet

Adobe provides an embed code. I don’t think the “font installed on your computer” is addressing this. I’m having the same issue. I’ve installed the adobe embed code in the “start of head” field under site/general. It’s not working for me.

It tried to add the font that way as well and it’s not a naming issue in my files, the font is not loading. I can’t see it in the networks fonts, or any font at all.

What’s odd - is that it almost seems to be working. The Font shows up as being specified when I inspect. The font in this case is “Industry:Black:

First off, I love the new Draw mode. It's a revolutionary addition for those of us working with graphic design in Figma. That said, I have one piece of feedback from a UX perspective.

During my workflow, I completely forgot I was in Draw mode. It took me a while to realize why things weren’t behaving as expected, and I struggled to locate how to exit the mode. The current visual cues are quite subtle, and there’s not a strong enough indicator that you’re in a distinct mode.

As someone who works with graphic design in Figma every day, I think making the mode more visually distinct or adding a more prominent persistent indicator would really improve the experience. Something like a clear banner, mode badge, or even a more obvious highlight in the UI could make a big difference.

Overall, Draw mode is an incredible feature, but I believe the UX around entering and exiting it could be refined to reduce confusion.

Thanks for continually pushing Figma forward!

The new feature 'Progressive Blur' is limited to 100, which means that on larger layers, it's not possible to achieve a suitable blur effect.

I love the new draw with brush function! Just one little piece of feedback, as an illustration lover I also use tablet input, and I don’t do mouse scroll with my pen, so a small slider bar in the brush menu will be super useful for me!

The tools in Figma Draw are already present in the Design mode, except for the new brush, which is just a variant of the pencil tool. I actually prefer the UI for the layers and properties panel of Draw, they’re easier to understand. I’ve always had a problem keeping track of what’s contained within a specific layer, so the addition of thumbnails is a valuable improvement. Switching between Draw and Design changes the way panels look and behave though, creating inconsistency. Why create two UIs for the same tools? Why not just allow me to select which version I prefer? Or just pick the clearly superior one that’s easier to understand at a glance and doesn’t hide so much functionality in sub menus.

I can see myself using draw and design together; one to sketch out ideas and the other to turn those ideas into UX/UI. What I don’t see myself doing is switching between two modes to achieve that specially when Draw seems to just make the drawing tools more prominent.

Ideally, I’d make the new layers and properties panels the default and no longer nest the drawing tools into one menu.

There are now three modes in Figma (Draw, Design, and Developer). I can understand separating Developer mode but Draw and Design aren't distinct enough to be two separate modes.

Are we getting password protected Figma Sites in the near future?

I only use vector tools to manage my company’s design system’s icons. There’s one thing I need Figma to do before I can finally not need Illustrator anymore and that’s fill-rule winding:

This would fix the code that’s exported for my devs to use. Going from this:

To this:

It would also be nice if Figma could bake in SVGO so I don’t have to rely on a plugin to achieve optimized exported SVG code (SVG Export).
