Collaboration Broken for Education Plan with Different Subscriptions

I’m on the Education plan, and collaborating with people who have different subscriptions has become extremely frustrating. Collaboration simply isn’t working anymore. Even though everyone has verified their student status and clearly shows they have editing access, they’re still unable to edit the files. This is seriously affecting our productivity.

I’m honestly disappointed with some of the recent changes Figma has introduced. I really hope these issues get resolved soon; otherwise, we’ll have to start considering other tools.

Hi @Tajkia_Sharmi, thanks for reaching out!

I completely understand your frustration. This would definitely hinder anyone’s workflow. When collaborating with an Education plan, it’s important to ensure that all collaborators have edit access to the specific file as well as can edit access within the team where the file resides.

If you are trying to collaborate with someone not in the specific education team where the file lives, they will need to join that specific team. Otherwise, you must share the individual file link with can edit access, and ensure that each new team member also has verified their own educational status.

New team members have seven days to verify their email address and education status. This makes it easier for newcomers to start participating and also allows you to add temporary guests, if needed.

After seven days, Figma will restrict their access to the team. And to get access to those files or projects again, they must verify their education status.
