Question

Change AI image generation loading animation back to transparent

Hi Figma team and community,

I'd like to suggest reverting (or making optional) the loading animation behavior during AI image generation.

Current behavior: When generating an image with AI, the Frame displays a dark blue gradient animation while waiting. This completely covers the canvas area and blocks visibility of all layers above the image layer.

Previous behavior: The loading state used to show a transparent checkered background, which allowed me to continue editing other layers and making layout adjustments while the image was being generated in the background.

Why this matters:

  • The dark blue animation blocks the entire work area during generation

  • It's no longer possible to edit or inspect layers above the image while waiting

  • This interrupts the design workflow, especially for longer generation times

Suggested fix:

  • Revert the loading animation back to transparent, or

  • Add a user preference to choose between the two behaviors

Thank you for considering this!

Hi @1111203,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the animation during Make an Image.

I checked on our end and can see that when generating an image on a layer, the loading animation covers the layers in front of it, blocking visibility during generation. I understand how this can interrupt your workflow, especially when you need to continue editing those layers while waiting for the generation to complete.

I'll go ahead and share your post with the relevant team internally for review. If we hear anything back, we'll update this thread.

Thanks!
