Zoom functionality freezes while using the Color Picker tool

Zooming is disabled while using the color picker. The canvas gets stuck and won't let me zoom in or out until I click and drop a color.

I understand that zooming becomes unavailable while the Color Picker tool is active, and only works again once you click to select a color. I wasn't able to reproduce this on my end, but I do have a few questions:

  • Is this happening in all files, or only a specific file?
  • Does it happen with both pinch-to-zoom and keyboard shortcuts (⌘+ / ⌘-)?
  • Are you using the browser, Desktop App, or both?

You can also try:

  • Closing any Figma tabs you're not actively using.
  • If you're using Figma in the browser, force-quit the browser and reopen Figma in a new browser window.
  • If you're using the Desktop App, force-quit the Figma app completely and relaunch it.

If the issue persists, please submit a bug report to our support team via the Support Hub → click Start a chat → type "Report a bug" → press Enter and follow the prompts.

A short screen recording showing the zoom becoming locked while using the Color Picker would be really helpful for the team to investigate. Please also include your OS and whether the issue occurs in the browser, Desktop App, or both. Thank you!

Thanks for getting back to me! To answer your questions:

  • Files affected: This is happening across all files, not just a specific one.

  • Zoom methods: Both the mouse scroll (wheel zoom) and the Cmd +/- keyboard shortcuts fail to work while the tool is active.

  • Platform: I am using the Figma Desktop App.

I have already tried force-quitting the app and restarting it, but the issue still persists.

 Thanks for the details and for trying these steps! This definitely looks odd.

Before we investigate further, can you please also check that you're running the latest version of the Desktop App? To do that, click Figma → Check for Updates in the menu bar on the top-left and install any available updates.

If your app is already up to date, then since this is happening across all files, affects both mouse and keyboard zoom controls while the Color Picker is active, and persists after restarting the Desktop App, I'd like our Technical Quality team to take a closer look.

Could you please submit a bug report as mentioned via Support Hub → click Start a chat → type "Report a bug" → press Enter and follow the prompts.

When submitting, please include:

  • A short screen recording showing the behavior
  • Your operating system and version
  • Confirmation that this occurs in the Desktop App across multiple files
  • The troubleshooting steps you've already tried
