I am getting this problem just now too. Seems like a bug that a lot of people using Figma are affected by.

This was happening to me for the past 20 minutes. But looks like the Figma team just pushed an update and fixed it. All good now on my end!

FWIW, I experienced this also after not using Figma for a week.  No clue what caused this because after an hour of trying to fix the issue, it just worked again.  Only mentioning this because I’ve seen others comment that it happened after a week of no use.

Hello everyone — thanks for reporting this, and sorry for the disruption. 🙏🏻

Checking in here to confirm that our Engineering team deployed a fix, so copying should be working as expected again. If you haven't already, refresh your tab and you should be good to go.

For the latest, keep an eye on Figma's status page where you can also subscribe for updates: status.figma.com.

This happen to me today.
Somehow it fixed by logout and then login again.
I can copy/cut my frame after login again.

Hope the dev fix this though.

Hi @Wira Darmawan, thanks for letting us know!

The team already pushed out the fix on July 27th. If you hadn’t refreshed your tabs before then, the fix may have not hit your account yet. Since things seem to be working as expected now, you should be all set, but please do let us know if you run into any further issues.

Corrine_Morita

Still running into this issue. “You are not allowed to copy this file”.
I am working in the Browser version. I can leave a file then go back to a file and it will fix but it is quite annoying.

Hey @Corrine_Morita — thanks for flagging this, and sorry for the annoyance. The specific incident from that day was resolved, so what you're seeing now may be a separate case. The best way for us to tell is to take a fresh look at your setup.

Could you open a ticket so we can investigate directly? Head to the Support Hub → Start a chat → type "Report a bug", and share the impacted file with support-share@figma.com with Can View access. If you can grab screenshot or brief recording of the error as it appears, that helps us dig into what's happening.

A couple of quick details would also speed things up: roughly when this started and how often it's happening. Once we have the file and a ticket open, we can confirm whether this is a new issue or a return of the earlier one and take it from there.

Same issue. On my web browser (Chrome), when this happens, I can work around it by disabling and then re-enabling the clipboard (while still on my document page). The browser usually asks me to reload the page, and then it works again. The setting is located to the left of the URL by clicking on the icon:
this icon...
I hope this helps!

Corrine_Morita

Talking to Figma support. The issue only happening with Chrome browser, not the desktop app. So it might be a Chrome permissions thing.
I did try your little trick above. It only works if I refresh the page.
Alternatively, if I leave the file then go back into the file, this also works.

Hey @no_regrets and @Corrine_Morita, thanks for adding these findings to the thread.

@no_regrets, the clipboard-permission reset is a good one to have on record — I’ll keep watch for other related reports. @Corrine_Morita, the detail that it's Chrome-only is really useful as well — it points toward a browser behavior rather than the file itself.

If you see the same thing crop up in another browser, please do flag it here or to the Technical Quality team directly. That would be new signal worth a closer look. 🙏🏻
