www.figma.com refused to connect.

I have a prototype embedded into a slide and that works great, But when I embed the slides file on my Square Space site I get the “www.figma.com refused to connect.” error message and the prototype doesn’t load. I searched and made sure all the permissions are set correctly. Is this a bug or some security setting within the browser?

Any help will be appreciated, for now I have a work around that opens the prototype in a new window via a text link but that is clunky.

Hi @bjgarcia7,

I understand you’re running into an issue where a prototype embedded inside your Slides file works fine, but the Slides embed on your Square Space site shows “www.figma.com refused to connect.” on the embed prototype.

Just to note up front: some applications allow you to embed a Figma file or prototype using only the Figma URL, but it looks like Square Space isn’t supported.
Reference: Add Figma embeds to other applications

Also, I don’t have direct access to Square Space, so troubleshooting may be a bit limited on my end — but here are a few steps we can try together:

  1. Can you confirm you followed the steps in this article when embedding the prototype into your slide? - Embed files and prototypes

  2. You mentioned checking permissions already, but just to double-check:

    • Make sure both the Slides file and the prototype file embedded inside the slide have the correct sharing permissions.

    • Also note: if a file is password-protected, it cannot be accessed from an embed.
More details: Public or private embeds

  3. Can you try opening both Square Space and Figma in the same browser to see whether the embedded prototype loads there?
This helps rule out cross-site/session issues.

If you’re still seeing the same issue after checking the above, any additional details or screenshots would be helpful.

That way, we can pass this along to our team for further investigation if needed.

Thanks,
