Why is Figma Make AI Consuming AI Credits So Quickly? Request for Explanation and Credit Usage Transparency

Zafar Ali

I recently subscribed to the Figma Professional plan, primarily to use Figma Make AI. As part of my subscription, I received 3,000 AI credits.

However, I am extremely confused and disappointed by how quickly these credits are being consumed.

Here is what happened:

  • I created only 6 design pages using Figma Make.

  • Those 6 pages consumed all 3,000 AI credits that came with my Professional subscription.

  • Assuming I may have simply run out of credits, I purchased an additional 1,000 AI credits.

  • Surprisingly, after submitting just a single prompt, the entire 1,000 credits were consumed immediately.

This behavior seems unreasonable and makes it very difficult to understand the actual cost of using Figma Make.

I would appreciate answers to the following questions:

  1. Why did a single prompt consume all 1,000 AI credits?

  2. How are AI credits calculated for Figma Make?

  3. Is the number of credits based on prompt length, generated components, iterations, or some other factor?

  4. Is there a detailed credit usage log available that shows exactly how many credits each prompt consumes?

  5. Were my credits consumed correctly, or could there be a billing or usage issue with my account?

  6. Are there any known issues related to excessive AI credit consumption?

At the moment, the AI credit system feels unpredictable because there is no clear indication of how many credits a prompt will use before it is executed. Without transparency, it is impossible to estimate or manage AI usage effectively.

I kindly request that your team:

  • Review my account's AI credit usage history.

  • Explain why my credits were depleted so rapidly.

  • Confirm whether the usage is expected or if there has been an error.

  • Consider restoring any credits if the consumption was caused by a bug or unexpected behavior.

I subscribed to the Professional plan expecting to use Figma Make for my design workflow, but the current AI credit consumption makes the feature impractical. I look forward to your explanation and assistance.

Thank you.

👋🏻 Hi @Zafar Ali, welcome to Figma Forum.

Thanks for laying this out — it gives a clear picture of what you're running into.

Here's some context on how it works:

  • Figma Make uses agentic AI, meaning the model determines what actions to take to complete a task.
  • Credit consumption varies based on task complexity, the model selected, and the context provided (such as attached files).
  • This section of Figma Learn breaks down those factors with credit range examples by task type: How AI credits work → AI credit consumption by feature.
  • On the usage tracking question, you can hover over the AI credits icon beneath each completed prompt in Make to see exactly how many credits it consumed.

All that said, 1,000 credits from a single prompt is worth a closer look. Consumption can vary depending on the factors noted above, but the most reliable way to confirm whether this was within the expected range is to have our Product Support team review the file's usage history directly. I've opened a case on your behalf and your ticket number is: 1987175. Please check your inbox for next steps on sharing file access securely.

Appreciate your patience as we dig into this.

Hey, has that been solved?
The same thing is happening to me. Even without using any AI tools in the last couple of days, my credits dropped from 1,8K to 300.

Hey @Marina Neves — thanks for flagging this. Credits dropping or being consumed without using any AI tools shouldn't be happening, and it's definitely something we'll want to take a closer look at.

I've flagged your report here with our Product Support team so they can review your account specifically. Your case number is: 2004230, and they'll follow up with more clarity and next steps as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you're an admin on a paid subscription, you can track AI credit usage across your plan in the admin dashboard. More on that here: Manage AI credits → Track usage in the admin dashboard.

Appreciate your patience while we follow up. Keep an eye on the email inbox tied to your Figma account for updates. 🙏🏻
