Why is a variable not in the file being suggested in "Check design"

Hi ​@Rob3  👋 Thanks for flagging this! Good news. This is the expected behavior. Check designs intentionally flags values from unsubscribed or unselected libraries so you'll still see suggestions for variables outside your current file even after narrowing things down.

Here's a quick test to try: 

• Select a specific set of libraries in the Check designs Settings menu.

• Use variable scoping in your design system (e.g., hiding primitives or scoping variables to specific asset types like text colors).

You can also check out our help center guide on Check designs for details on how library scoping works.

If it still feels off, could you share a full-screen screenshot showing the Check designs panel on the right (with your Settings/Libraries selector visible)? That will help confirm whether mismatch detection is doing its job or if there's something else worth a closer look!

Yeah ,I’ve chosen a specific library I’ve double checked that the variables it’s suggesting aren’t part of said library but they still appear and it kind of defeats the purpose of the feature

As you can see from my screenshots, I’ve checked created in this file, it’s suggesting surface-primary-on-dark variable, but when I got to my variables it is not a part of the variables in this file

You've done the right thing by scoping to "Created in this file," so a suggestion for surface-primary-on-dark that isn't in your file's variables shouldn't be showing up under that setting. I created a support ticket for this. The ID 2030882 is and the subject line is Check designs suggests variable not in file when scoped to "Created in this file". ​@Rob3 I did have on more question (that I thought of after I hit send) — do you know if surface-primary-on-dark was ever part of this file before — for example, created here and then renamed or removed, or published from this file into a library? — Jaycee

It’s part of a deprecated library but I checked using a plugin and there are no instances of components or elements using this variable and others that are appearing in the file. Could this be the issue?
