Question

When pasting from Excel, content has additional whitespace

Oftentimes I need to copy/paste a portion of an Excel sheet into FigJam as a table (using Ctrl+V or right click > paste). When I do this, it adds additional spaces and line breaks to the content within each cell, so I have to go through each one manually and delete this whitespace. This is very time consuming.

Hey @Amy Oetting 🤩 Welcome to our community! Thanks for your post. I have a few questions:

  • Are you copying from the Excel desktop app or Excel in a browser, and is FigJam open in the desktop app or a browser?
  • If you paste the same copied cells into Notepad or TextEdit instead, does the extra whitespace show up there too?
  • Does the same thing happen if you export the sheet to a .csv and import it into your board instead? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/12583849250199-Tables-in-FigJam (knowing if the whitespace persists with this method is useful)

Thank you for the additional information! — Jaycee

Hi @Jaycee Lewis!

  • I’m copying from Excel desktop. FigJam is open in browser, though this has also happened when I have used FigJam on desktop.
  • Nope, the whitespace only appears in FigJam.
  • Nope, it does not add whitespace if importing from CSV.

Thank you @Amy Oetting 🤩 I’d like to to take this to my resources. And I have one more quick test for you if you have a sec:

  • Copy that same range from Excel desktop and paste it into an email draft in Gmail or Outlook, or into a Google Doc. Seeing whether the extra spaces and line breaks show up there too is a useful clue (and another screenshot if possible)

I’ll take all this and share it internally and get a next step or answer for us. Thanks again! — Jaycee
