Question

When clicking a Figma link in Zoom, it always opens in my Chrome browser... even when I have selected "Open links in tab"

How can we stop opening links in a browser when I have downloaded the app. It is super annoying to have to log in and use the chrome browser.

My flow is:

  1. Someone sends a link in Slack/Zoom chat
  2. I click the link
  3. Opens Chrome browser with new tab
  4. Have to login via SSO
  5. No way to open link in App from the browser

What I expect

  1. Someone sends a link in Slack/Zoom chat
  2. I click the link
  3. Open New tab in Figma app

Hi @Mike_Hone, thanks for reaching out!

I totally understand your frustration. At Figma, we also sign-in using SSO, so I experience the same thing from time to time.

Please keep in mind that since the preference for opening links in the desktop app can only be enabled in the browser, you must ensure that you’ve already logged in to the same account you’re using in the browser and the desktop app.

It’s a good rule of thumb to check that you’ve logged in for both so that Slack and Zoom can recognize your preference and open Figma links accordingly. If you’re prompted to login via SSO, that’s a good indicator that you weren’t already logged in.

But after login, the link you were previously trying to open should redirect to open in the desktop app, or you can manually select Open in desktop app from the Main Menu.

Hope this helps explain, but please let us know if you run into any further issues.
