Thanks for your post, @Tamapa! And hello, @hendawyjr! Just to clarify, both of you are trying to use your Figma login credentials at weave.figma.com, right? Figma Weave is still a separate product and login (not to be confused with Weave tools in Figma Design).

You can read about this and other common questions in our Figma Weave FAQ, but the short answer is you’ll need to create a separate login for Figma Weave at weave.figma.com rather than use your existing Figma account. We’ll have more information to share about Figma Weave in the coming months, but for now you’ll use separate logins for that and Figma itself. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi @adamsmasher in the Figma Weave FAQ you refer to, it says:

You can start using Figma Weave today by signing up at weave.figma.com. If you have an existing Figma account, you can use your Figma login credentials for your Figma Weave account.

However, this does not work, as @Tamapa  and @hendawyjr mentioned earlier.
Today, I also encountered the same problem whilst trying to log in via Figma SSO. So it definitely looks like an issue with the app. And it doesn’t reassure me (and others, I imagine) that we’ll be given more information in the coming months, given that it’s currently not possible to create an account by simply entering an email address and password, but only via SSO. We would therefore be grateful for information on how to create such an account now, rather than in a few months’ time.

Hi @ppd, thanks for chiming in!

I understand your frustration here, so I’d be happy to help clarify further. Figma Weave currently limits email/password sign in for Starter and EDU plans. Even with a valid Figma login, you do not have a Figma Weave account until you create a new one.

To do that, you must sign into Figma Weave using "Continue with Google" or "Continue with Microsoft" instead of Figma SSO or Email/password, using whichever email you'd like tied to your Weave account.

To be clear, Figma Weave and Figma use distinct, separate accounts. This Google/Microsoft requirement is specific to your plan type. I agree that the current error message doesn't explain any of this, so I've flagged it to the team as feedback.

Hi @djv, but what should I do if I don’t want to use my Google or Microsoft account? I’d like to use a separate account for Figma/Figma Weave.

Hi @BAK, thanks for following up!

I understand wanting to keep things separate, but here's the full picture so you can decide what works best for you. This restriction only applies to new Figma Weave sign-ups on a non-paid Figma plan (like Starter or an EDU plan). For these plan types, email/password sign-up to Weave is not available, and Google or Microsoft is the only option at sign-up. Signing in this way doesn't change anything about your account, features, or access; it's just the authentication method.

If you'd rather use email/password specifically, the one thing that will unlock it is being on a paid Figma plan. Once your account has a paid seat, the email/password restriction no longer applies to your account, and you'll be able to sign up to Figma Weave that way instead.

Hi @djv, Im unable to log in to Weave with my Microsoft account, it says “You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account.” How can I fix this?

Hi, @babulyas - thanks for your reply. I’m sure this is a confusing experience for you.

Do you have a work or school account with Google or Microsoft? Sounds like you do not with Microsoft, but maybe you have a Google account you can use instead?

Also, to clarify my earlier reply from last month - depending on your Figma account, you can log into Figma Weave with it as stated in the Figma Weave FAQ, though there are some exceptions at the moment.
