Using Variable Mode to control nested instances, Disrespects Boolean properties

Hello! 🤠

I am running into an issue when attempting to control a Nested Component’s Variant with a String Variable which changes value based on the Mode selected. Specifically, the Variant is switching just fine, but the Boolean properties of the Nested Component are being reset to their default values. Below is a quick video demoing the extent of the issue and some surrounding cases that are working.

This issue is preventing me from harnessing this huge time savings, so any help would be appreciated! Thank you.

    Hi ​@adamsmasher - thanks for following up to OP on this, came here with the same issue. Any chance you could help me with this as well? Resolving this bug would be very helpful for an enterprise DS push we’re working on. Thanks in advance.

    Hey ​@Quinn Patrick , thanks for sharing your example too. I did find a suitable workaround for me at the moment. If you setup the Modal Responsive Footer with Variants instead of Boolean Properties to control the number of buttons shown, Figma behaves as we would like it to! This is a pretty small adjustment, and while I think Figma should continue to investigate and shore up this behavior, this is a short term adjustment to how we build to achieve what we want. Let me know if you have success with this method as well!


    I could also share with you an interesting approach I’ve developed for using a single variable mode to control all component sets with varying values for “Viewport Width”, giving greater flexibility and control to when certain components switch their variant based on the mode.
