URGENT - Persistent Issue with Educational Figma Licenses – Locked Accounts

Frédéric Lacroix

Hello,

Many of our users at Cégep de Sainte-Foy — both students (1st, 2nd, and 3rd year) and teachers — are still unable to access their Figma Education license. Several accounts remain locked, even though verification was successfully completed in recent months.

All affected users have re-submitted proof of eligibility (student ID and class schedule), but the problem persists. Please see attached screenshots showing the “locked” and “verification exceeded” messages.

This situation is seriously blocking project progress, as teamwork within shared Figma files has become impossible.

We teach in a French-language CEGEP in Canada, and this recurring issue is causing significant disruption. Would it be possible to streamline the authentication process by automatically verifying all users with an @csfoy.ca email address?

Thank you for your help,
Frédéric Lacroix

Hi @Frédéric Lacroix ,

I understand that students and teachers at your school are having some issues with the reverification process for Figma for Education.

Please note that Figma cannot review documents or confirm individual user eligibility, and we’re unfortunately unable to automatically approve domains for higher education institutions.

All verification requests are handled by SheerID, who will review each submission or appeal and let you know if your status can be approved.

So, please have each student and educator go through the SheerID verification process individually, as outlined in this article:  Figma for Education – Apply for verification

When submitting, please make sure all information is correct. For example:

  • Use your school-issued email address.

  • Select the relevant institution type — for example, choose “Higher Ed” if you’re a higher education student.

  • Select the correct country and school name.

If the students and teachers at your school have confirmed that all information is correct and they’re eligible based on the qualifications listed, but are still being rejected by SheerID, you can submit an appeal directly with SheerID by providing additional documentation. SheerID will review your appeal and let you know if your status can be approved.

Locked team:

If SheerID has already approved the education status but the Education team remains locked, please have the team owner confirm that they’ve completed the reverification process. If the owner hasn’t completed it yet, please ask them to do so.

If the team remains locked even after the owner has verified, please have the team owner contact education@figma.com directly from the email address associated with their Figma account.

You can find related information in the “My team was downgraded and locked. How can I unlock it?” section of Troubleshooting verification.

Verification Limit Exceeded

I understand you’ve already contacted SheerID regarding this, but please reach out to their support team again using this secure form: SheerID Support Contact Form

They have an improved process for handling these cases and are best equipped to review your situation and advise on next steps. Even if you’ve contacted them before, their updated system ensures a faster and more efficient resolution.

To ensure your application progresses smoothly, please respond promptly to any requests for additional information from SheerID.

You may also want to review the “Troubleshooting verification” and “Frequently Asked Questions” sections in the following article, as they may include scenarios similar to your situation: Figma for Education

Thanks for your understanding,
