Updated AI credits and unable to send files to Figma Make

I have a Full Seat. My Admin purchased extra AI credits for the month. When I send a file to Figma Make, I get the message “Your Full seat in xxxx’s team is out of AI credits until they reset on Apr x.” When I check the AI Balance it shows 5.4k credits left out of 7.5k for the month.

Hi @pjh, thanks for reaching out!

I can see why this feels confusing, but I’m happy to help clarify what’s happening here. With a Full seat on a Professional plan, each seat has a monthly AI credit limit (3,000 credits). As of March 18, 2026, these per-seat limits are now enforced, and any usage earlier in the month still counts toward that limit.

Even though your team has additional AI credits available (the 5.4k / 7.5k you’re seeing), those are part of your team’s overall balance. Once an individual Full seat reaches its monthly limit, it won’t be able to use additional AI features again until the next reset date, even if there are still credits remaining at the team level. That’s why you’re seeing remaining credits in the balance, but still getting the “out of AI credits” message.

More information available in our Help Center article here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/35865276858647-Manage-AI-credits

Your credits should reset on your next billing cycle, at which point you’ll be able to use AI features again. Hope this helps explain, but please let me know if you have any further  questions!

Hi djv;

Thank you for the response.

I understand why this is happening but my Full seat on a Professional plan needs access to the remaining overall balance of credits that we paid for.

How can my Admin increase my seat’s monthly limit of AI credits to 7.5k? Our project can’t wait for next reset.

Thank you

pjh

Hi @pjh, thanks for following up!

I completely understand the urgency here. While your team does have additional AI credits available at the plan level, the 3,000 monthly limit for a Full seat on a Professional plan is a fixed per-seat cap and can’t be increased by an Admin. Even with purchased credits, those shared (plan) credits can be used up to the seat’s monthly limit, but they don’t extend that limit beyond 3,000 for an individual user. That’s why you may have been able to use plan credits earlier, but are now seeing a hard stop after reaching your seat cap.

At the moment, there isn’t a way to raise an individual seat’s monthly limit mid-cycle. As a workaround, your Admin could:

  • Have another team member with available seat credits run the AI actions
  • Or consider redistributing work across seats that haven’t reached their limit yet

Otherwise, access will reset at the start of your next billing cycle. I know that’s not ideal given your timeline, but I hope this helps clarify what’s happening.

Hi @djv;

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately neither of you suggestions will work. It is clear that the issue is about the seemingly arbitrary AI credit limit you are enforcing on a paid service. Enforcing a credit cap on a free service is completely reasonable. I don’t understand why the cap is being enforced now that the we have to pay for the service. Realistically, you are losing out on revenue. Not letting someone burn through millions of paid credits seems strange, especially since it was unlimited and free prior to March 18th.

It sounds like the only way I can access the remainder of the paid AI credits and continue on the project is for Figma to:

  1. remove the hard credit limit from my seat
  2. increase the hard limit to the 7.5k available
  3. reset my used credits and give me access to an additional 3k

Ideally, my Admin should have full control over how they want to allocate purchased AI credits.

Also: do the purchased AI credits roll over to the next month if they are not used?

Thank you

pjh

Hi @pjh, I hear where you’re coming from, especially given that your team has already purchased additional credits and is trying to move quickly on a project.

To clarify, the options you outlined (removing the seat cap, increasing it to match the plan balance, or resetting usage mid-cycle) aren’t possible today. The per-seat monthly limit is a fixed part of how AI credits are currently structured, even when additional credits are purchased at the plan level. I understand your point about flexibility and admin control though. That’s valuable feedback, and I’ll make sure it’s shared with the team.

For your question on rollover: AI credits don’t carry over month to month. Any unused credits expire at the end of the billing cycle, and usage resets at the start of the next cycle. I know this isn’t the outcome you were hoping for, especially given your timeline, but I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective here.
