Unlogged viewers get error "You don’t have access to this file"

Dear experts,

I shared a file to Anyone with “can view” permissions. When users not signed in to Figma open the URL, they get red error message "You don’t have access to this file" for a second, then get redirected to Figma’s start page. Any idea why this happens?

Kindest regards,

Victor

Hey @Victor Sokov, thanks for reaching out!

To confirm, these team members have “Can view” edit access for the file and not that the file is set to “Anyone can view”, correct?

If so, this is expected behavior. If these users only have “Can view” access associated with their email address, they will need to log in in order to view the file as their permissions are granted by their Figma account.

If it’s the latter and your file is set to “Anyone can view”, this may be a bug or an issue with the permissions set for the file at a higher level (i.e. project or team permissions).

More information about inherited permissions is available here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500007609322-Guide-to-sharing-and-permissions#h_01K6P8WKVZ5V9YSC6X7D98Z4EH

Dear djv, many thanks for your clarifications and link!

I grasped the idea of nested permissions, as explained here https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039970673-Team-permissions

Looks like a File cannot be shared to Anyone (unlogged users) when in Drafts.

I had to put it into a Team - after that sharing via URL worked.

Kindest regards,

Victor
