Unable to Remove meta name="robots" content="noindex" from Figma Sites — Preventing Indexing by Google

Hi Figma team,

I'm building a website using Figma Sites (https://www.marilialeal.com.br/), and I've encountered a major issue regarding SEO and search engine indexing.

The site is automatically generating the following tag in the <head>:

 

<meta name="robots" content="noindex">

 

This prevents Google Search Console from indexing the site, and there's currently no way to remove or override this tag through the Figma Sites settings. I’ve tried adding a new <meta name="robots" content="index, follow"> tag as high as possible in the Custom Code section, but it’s still ignored by search engines because the noindex tag appears first.

This makes Figma Sites unsuitable for any project that requires SEO or public visibility on search engines.

Could you please provide a way to:

  1. Remove or override the default noindex tag in the <head>;

  2. Ensure that published websites are indexable when desired;

  3. Clarify whether this is an intentional limitation or a bug?

Thanks in advance. This is a critical blocker for using Figma Sites in production environments.

    I am facing the same issues. Starting from June 3rd, all my pages went unable to be crawled by Google. It would be great if there is a way to bypass or fix this.

    Hey All, thanks for reaching out! 

    To resolve this search engine indexing issue, you'll need to check your website settings. The noindex meta tag is likely being added because the "Exclude from search engine results" option is enabled for your Sites files.

    Here's how to fix this:
    1. Open your Sites file
    2. Click the Settings icon in the left navigation bar
    3. Select General
    4. Look for the "Exclude the website from search engine results" option
    5. Make sure this box is unchecked
     
    You can manage this setting both site-wide and for individual pages. Once you've made this change, you'll need to republish your site for the changes to take effect. After republishing, the noindex meta tag should be removed, allowing search engines to index your site.

    Your concern is valid having a default <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> severely limits SEO potential. Figma Sites must provide an option to control indexing behavior. Without this, it's unsuitable for production or any SEO-focused projects. This issue needs urgent attention from the Figma team.

    I ran into the same thing and ended up using Figma's embed option inside another site that doesn’t block indexing. That way I could keep my design and still get a speedy index without that meta tag getting in the way. Feels a bit roundabout, but it worked until Figma gives more control over those headers.

      I Unchecked that checkbox and published a couple of times since then and the  “<meta name="robots" content="noindex">” is still there. Will it be fixed soon?

        I have:

        • Checked the setting was off

        • Turned it on, republished, then turned it off again and republished (twice)

        • Confirmed the site is live and accessible

        • Verified in Google Search Console that pages are being excluded due to the noindex tag

        Despite this, Google Search Console still reports “Excluded by noindex tag”, which suggests the tag may still be present in the page header or being cached somewhere.

        Could you please check whether:

        • The noindex tag is being correctly removed on publish

        • There could be a caching delay on Figma’s hosting

        • There is anywhere else this setting could be applied unintentionally

        This is currently preventing my site from being indexed.

        I’ve created a project in Figma Sites and connected to my domain with DNS. In the file settings, I’ve made sure to uncheck the “Exclude from search engine results” option.

        However, after publishing, the noindex meta tag still appears in the site’s head when i try to do index in Google Search Console. There are no noindex tags in my code.
        Can you please help me with my problem.
