Unable to reclaim my previous username

I previously used @pebly as my username, but now it says the unique handle is already taken. I’m also not sure if it may have been associated with a project at some point, but I can no longer access it from my account. My email is [redacted by moderator to remove personal information] - does anyone know how I might recover that handle? Thanks

Hey @pebly — appreciate the update. I've removed the email addresses you shared to protect your privacy. 🙏🏻

Just want to make sure we're on the same page: Neither of the emails you provided appear to be associated with your current Figma Forum account — was that intentional, or is there another account involved?

I've touched base with our Platform Support team and asked them to follow up at your current email address. Your updated case number is: 1810042. Appreciate your patience on this, we’ll get there.

Hey @pebly — welcome to Figma Forum, and thanks for flagging this! Let’s get this untangled together.

It looks like there may be two different places where your username is coming into play, so just to level-set:

  • You’re all set with the username @pebly here on the forum. ✅
  • I checked the Figma Community for creators and do see an account at: https://www.figma.com/@pebly. Are you able to access that account, or does that help clarify what you’re running into?

A couple quick checks that will help me raise this to the right team:

  1. Are you seeing any specific error messages when you try to reclaim the username?
  2. Do you recall creating a Figma account in the past using a different email address?

For privacy and security, I’ve removed some personal details from your original post, and I can’t access or change account settings from here. That said, if you’re still stuck after checking the above, say the word and I’ll open a request with our platform team so they can take a deeper look for you.

Hello, thank you for your response.

  1. When I try to setup my handle, it says it’s already taken (that’s the error shown).
  2. I checked all my known emails, and I couldn’t find a duplicate account. From what I remember, I might have set up @pebly in the past as my username or for a project, but I can’t say for sure.

If you’re able to check on your end, that would be great. Thank you!

Hello @Tom Reem - thank you for your message.

I wasn’t aware that you sent the support request on my old email [redacted by moderator to remove personal information], also I deleted the account associated with that email. Can you resend the support request on my current email [redacted by moderator to remove personal information]? Thanks

Hello @Tom Reem - I don’t have multiple accounts. I updated my email on Figma, but it’s not reflecting on the forum.figma.com or help.figma.com. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, this can be tricky. If the handle is already taken, it usually means it’s still tied to an existing account or maybe an old team/project you were part of. I’d probably try reaching out to Figma support directly — they’re the only ones who can really check ownership and help you recover it if possible.

I ran into something similar before, and it turned out the username was still linked somewhere I completely forgot about. Even on platforms like phonexa handles and accounts don’t just get released automatically, so there’s usually some connection behind the scenes.
