Unable to publish new components to Figma library

Hi Figma Support,

I'm experiencing an issue with publishing new components to a Figma library.

I've added several new icon components to our library. They appear correctly in the Publish library window with the “Added” status. However, when I select them and click Publish, Figma shows that the publishing process has started, but it never seems to complete.

There is no success message and no error message. When I reopen the Publish library window, the same components are still listed as “Added”, and they are not available as published library components.

I've already tried:

  • Publishing all components at once
  • Publishing only one component at a time
  • Deleting the affected components and recreating them from scratch
  • Publishing through the library updates/publishing interface
  • Reopening and restarting Figma

Some components from the same file were published successfully earlier, but most of the newly added components are now affected.

I'm using the Figma Desktop app, not Figma in a web browser.

Could you please check whether this could be a library publishing issue on Figma's side or advise what else I should check?

Hi ​@FM DESIGN, thanks for the detailed post - that's really helpful context, and I can totally see how frustrating it is to have publishing stall with no error to point you in the right direction.

 

We’ve seen this issue (components stuck at "Added" with the publish never resolving) come up before, and a few different things have turned out to be the cause each time. A few things that are worth checking:

  • Invalid assets
    • In the Publish library window, is there ever anything appearing under an "Invalid" section, even briefly? Sometimes it's easy to miss.
  • Naming conflicts
    • Do any of the new icon components share a name, or a variant/property name, with something already published in the library?
  • Unused properties
    • ​​​​​​​If any of the new components have component properties that aren't applied anywhere, that can silently block publishing.
  • Nested/looped components
    • ​​​​​​​Is it possible any of the icons reference each other, or reference a component that's nested many layers deep?

 

Since you're on Desktop specifically, it'd also help to grab your Desktop app debug logs around the time you click Publish, since that can surface something even when there's no on-screen error. Also, just to rule it out as a possible cause, have you tried publishing using a web browser? If none of that turns anything up, could you share a short screen recording of the Publish attempt? Could you first try the troubleshooting steps shared above, including testing the publish from a browser if you’re currently using the desktop app?

If the issue still persists, I’d like our support team to take a closer look at your specific library file. Please submit a bug report through the Support Hub by typing “Report a bug” > “Start a chat” > click ”Enter”, then follow the prompts.

When submitting the report, please include:

  • the affected library file URL
  • a short screen recording showing the publish attempt getting stuck
  • whether this happens in the desktop app, browser, or both
  • your OS and Figma desktop app/browser version
  • and grant Can View access to support-share@figma.com for the affected file

This will help the team reproduce the issue and investigate further. Thank you!
