UNABLE TO INSTALL FIGMA DESKTOP APP

Figma Desktop App Crashes Immediately on Launch (Windows 11, RTX 3050 4GB)

The Figma desktop app crashes immediately on launch — the Figma logo appears briefly, then the app closes with no error message. Figma works perfectly in the browser, so the issue is isolated to the desktop app.

System specs:

  • Windows 11 (fully updated)
  • Nvidia RTX 3050 4GB

Steps already tried (none resolved the issue):

  • Restarting PC
  • Ending Figma processes via Task Manager
  • Running Figma as administrator
  • Clearing/renaming Figma AppData folders (%APPDATA%\Figma and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Figma)
  • Full reinstall with fresh installer
  • Disabling dedicated GPU and launching with integrated graphics
  • Creating a new Windows user account and installing Figma there
  • Running installer in Windows 10 compatibility mode
  • Checking Windows Event Viewer — no Figma-related logs found
  • Updating Windows and Nvidia drivers

Any help identifying the cause would be appreciated.

Hi, @252025rRACHITRACHITSHAR SAHRMA, Thanks for your post and for the detailed list of everything you’ve already tried - it’s very helpful.

Your card itself shouldn’t be an issue, and if had you’d have had issues using Figma in a browser (though that was a good idea to try switching to integrated graphics).

Have you ever installed Google Antigravity? Some folks who had that installed on Windows 11 ran into a similar issue with immediate crashes, even after uninstalling Antigravity. It can happen when Windows permissions under %LOCALAPPDATA% contain an invalid or orphaned security identifier, which then causes the app’s sandboxed GPU process to fail during startup.

A couple of questions would help confirm whether this is the same issue:

    • Is Google Antigravity installed now, or has it ever been installed on this computer?
    • In Figma shortcut > Properties > Compatibility, is Run this program as an administrator enabled (I ask because you tried running it as an administrator)? If so, make sure that’s disabled.
    • What is the exact Windows version and OS build shown under Settings > System > About? Are you enrolled in the Windows Insider program?
    • Do any other Electron apps, such as VS Code, Discord, GitHub Desktop, or Postman, also close immediately?

There is a --no-sandbox flag which worked as a solution for those with the issue I mentioned above, though ideally Antigravity will fix the issue so that flag isn’t needed. For now, continuing in the browser is the best solution whether you ran into the Antigravity issue or something else.

If Antigravity has never been installed and Figma still crashes when run as a normal user, please share the exact Windows build and Figma version - I will provide that to the team for investigation.
