I love the new “Make” feature, but I cannot get over how the “Download Code” button doesn’t download the code you’re provided.

Download Code button in Make page

You get a .zip file with the name of the tab and no contents. Is there something I’m missing? I understand it’s “AI Beta”, but if this feature doesn’t work - why have it on the screen?

Hi @mar2d2, thanks for reaching out!

You should be able to download your code and get a ZIP file that contains your generated code. I just tested it on my end and got a ZIP file with content.

Just to help narrow things down:

  • Are you on Mac or Windows?

  • Have you tried opening the ZIP file using a different extractor app, just in case it’s a decompression issue?

If that doesn’t help, feel free to upload the ZIP file to Google Drive and share the link with me, either here or via DM. Here’s a quick video guide on how to upload ZIP files to Drive.

Let me know how to proceed, happy to help out further!

@Gayani_S I’m noticing the same issue when trying to open or extract the downloaded zip in Windows 11.

Here’s the link to the same file uploaded to drive as you can see there are contents: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KIbuMD3EaO8H6Cbx3LfTzNXan278IQkj/view?usp=drive_link

Sorry for not replying and ‘updating’ my post.

TL;DR; Use 7zip, Figma please fix.

I wrote to support pretty much on the same day as the initial post and got a response very quick. After some back and forth I found what the problem is...

The .zip file that is generated opened up on the support agent’s device (which I assume runs MacOS or Linux or they used third-party software to look at the files), but not on my Windows 11 (using File Explorer to view/extract .zip files), but if I opened the .zip file with something like 7zip then magically the files appear. So I shared my findings with Figma and closed my ticket and marked it as done.

As of posting this (01/06/25) zip files from Figma are only visible and extractable with 7zip (and potentially other third-party software), but not with File Explorer. I’ve tried other services and their zip file opened up without the need to use third-party software.

Anyway… I hope this info helps!

Hi All, i made a quick vsix extension based on the above repo and a few tweaks. Install in your fave IDE and CMD+SHIFT+P Figma Make add…. and select the zip file. Happy coding :) https://github.com/spetro511/figma-make-scaffolder
