Hello Figma Support Team,

I am facing an urgent issue with my account.

Since yesterday, I am continuously getting this error while trying to create a new file:
“XHR for '/api/files/create' failed with status 429”

Because of this, I am completely unable to create any new files in Figma (including Drafts). I have already tried:

  • Logging out and logging in again

  • Clearing browser cache

  • Trying without plugins

The issue still persists, and it is blocking my work urgently.

Could you please check if my account is under any rate limit or restriction and help resolve this as soon as possible?

This is time-critical for my work, so I would really appreciate a quick resolution.

Hey @Saurav8066 — welcome to Figma Forum! Thanks for taking the time to report this and for the troubleshooting you’ve already done.

You’re correct, a 429 error usually means your account has hit a rate limit for creating files. These limits typically reset automatically after a short period, and our Product Support team generally isn’t able to manually increase or reset them. This resource may offer more clarity: What if I'm rate-limited? → Rate limits.

It’s possible the issue has already resolved itself, but could you let me know if you’re still seeing this error? If it persists unexpectedly, we can escalate to our Technical Quality team for a closer review.

While we can’t make changes to account settings here in the public forum, I’ll make sure your experience is shared with the appropriate team members as we continue to improve how these limits are communicated and handled.
