Question

Typography style preview does not update to accurately reflect new values when switching modes

For example in the typography style preview when a style is selected in a default density mode you may see “Header Small 16/20” and then when switching to a high density mode you still see ““Header Small 16/20” when it should actually say “Header Small 14/18”

Is it possible to make these accurately reflect the font sizes and line heights when switching mode?

Hey hey @Mackenzie2 👋 Great post! I have a few questions to help us dig in together:

  • Is the rendered text on the canvas also wrong, or just the label? i.e., does the layer actually show 14/18 correctly once you switch modes, and only the style preview/dropdown text stays stuck on 16/20?
  • Where exactly is the stale label showing — the style picker/swatch flyout when browsing/applying styles, or the right-panel "applied style" summary next to a selected text layer?
  • Can you add a not-zoomed-in screen recording of the issue happening, if possible?

Thanks! — Jaycee

I have the same Problem. The text on the canvas is rendered correctly. It’s just the label that doesn’t respect the mode switch. Currently its only in the Design-Mode, when editing the text. (the label under typography).
Dev Mode shows the right values.

Hey @Mackenzie2 👋 Thanks for flagging this.

To help pin down what's happening, would you mind sharing:

  • Whether the variable is applied directly to the text layer, or only through the text style itself
  • a not-zoomed-in screen recording (it’s what support will request if we need to open a ticket)

One thing worth checking in the meantime: a style's preview label doesn't always reflect a specific mode's values, since the style itself isn't bound to any one mode context (more on how default modes work here). If the text on your canvas is actually resolving to 14/18 in high density mode and it's just the preview label stuck at 16/20, that's likely what's going on — but if the canvas text itself is wrong too, that's a different issue, so the recording will help us tell which one you're seeing.
