Question

The P3 image in the file is displayed in sRGB

I just updated Figma Design half an hour ago, and it’s displayed as a banner in my nav bar.

I began to notice a problem: I had inserted many P3 format images into one of my P3 design files, but they looked dark and had become just like sRGB. I chose to export as P3, and although the settings showed P3, the result actually looked no different from sRGB. I had kept the original files of those inserted P3 images, so I tried to reinsert them, but it didn’t work. They still looked exactly the same as sRGB. If I export a frame as P3, which contains the original P3 images with other elements, then in the end only the other elements appear in P3 colors, and the inserted images still look like sRGB.

This clever bug has completely messed up my design workflow, to the point where I don’t know how to proceed, whether I should keep them or replace them. But as things stand, I know there’s no way I can insert the P3 images into the design file and still make them look like P3s. Please fix this bug.

The web edition is still working fine at the moment. When inserting P3 images, sometimes they still look like P3 images after being inserted. Don't mess that up too!

Hi @ChisakaKanako 👋 Thanks for your feedback. I have a few requests to help use troubleshoot together.

Could you share a few more details?

  • Which operating system and Figma desktop app version are you using?

  • Can you share a sample of one of the original P3 images you're importing?

  • Does this happen in all your P3 files, or only in this file?

  • Could you confirm whether the images displayed correctly in the desktop app before the recent update?

Thanks for the additional details! — Jaycee

Hi @Jaycee Lewis , thank you for your reply. I’d be happy to provide more details to help resolve this issue. I’m using macOS 27.0.1 and Figma desktop app 126.10.11. About 11 hours before this issue, roughly half an hour before I posted this community feedback, I received an update. It was a gray banner notification that said something like “Figma Design is ready to update.” After I clicked the “Update” button, the Figma desktop app didn’t restart as it usually does. Instead, it reloaded my design page. I’d like to explain how I discovered this bug and how to reproduce it. I was working on my portfolio at the time, using several individual design drafts and a final portfolio draft. This issue affected the final portfolio draft. My workflow was to export the frames from those individual design drafts as P3, PNG, or JPG images, setting the color output to “P3” (not “P3 (same as file)”). After exporting, everything looked fine, the colors were vivid P3, and my monitor supports this. The problem, however, was within the final portfolio draft, which consisted of individual frams containing text alongside the exported images. I noticed that after reloading, these P3 images became extremely dark. My export confirmed this. Even though I overrode them with the original P3 images, I could see that the colors weren’t as dark, but they still fell below P3 standards. The text in the frames and the primary colors displayed in some design images use the same color values, so I could see the difference very clearly. Further exports of the entire frame confirmed this. Up to this point, all my exports had followed the same color settings, and the color setting in the top-left corner of the page had consistently been set to P3. Here’s the key issue: in the affected portfolio draft, I’ve already replaced the images in the frame, but when I close and reopen the page, the images revert to their extremely dark state. This is something I’ve been unable to resolve, even after clearing the cache and restarting my computer. It’s also worth noting that in all my other design drafts, the images I’ve tried exporting show significant color differences compared to the versions saved on my computer before the update. They appear grayer and less vibrant than before. I always keep the latest version of Figma desktop, but this update has clearly broken my entire workflow, everything was working fine before this update. I’d be happy to provide unaffected images for comparison, but I’d prefer not to share them in public. Could I send them to you through DC or email?
