Hello,

Since yesterday, the Figma desktop app has become very slow. It takes a long time to load, text and objects respond with a delay, and dragging elements causes lag and leaves a trail.

Interestingly, everything works smoothly in the browser version.

I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Cleared the app cache

  • Reinstalled Figma

  • Updated all drivers

  • Disabled antivirus

Unfortunately, none of these helped. Until yesterday, the app was working perfectly without any issues.

Is there anything else I can do to resolve this?
It’s really inconvenient to work in the browser version for my daily tasks.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @Mrs.Alyona,

So I hear you're having some lag issue with the Figma desktop app. Thanks for taking the time troubleshooting.

I also noticed that you're already chatting with one of our technical quality specialists through your support request. Could you take a look at their messages and let them know how things are going? They're the best folks to help you troubleshoot this.

Thanks for your understanding!

I am using the desktop application and I have also experienced the same issue over the past two weeks. Simply moving components around the page, or trying to select and edit text within a component takes so very long.

The entire application seems to have slowed down.

Hi,
I was advised to download the beta version of Figmi and the problem went away

Oh okay, thanks for the response.

Hey @jjeffrie , thank you for flagging this!

To help us look into this more closely, could you let us know a few details?

  • Are you seeing this also in the browser,?
  • When did you first start noticing the slowdowns?
  • Does it happen in one specific file, or across all your files?
  • How often is the issue happening — every time, or off and on?
  • And lastly, have you had a chance to try resetting Figma or restarting to see if that helps?

It would be helpful, if you’re able to share a screen recording with us.

  • No I am only using the desktop version of the application.
  • I noticed the slow down at the beginning of this week (after not using the software for a week), it seems to correspond to the auto layout formatting updates and UI updates.
  • I am only working within a single file that has many pages.
  • This has been a constant issue this week, these issues were not present at the beginning of May.
    • Selecting text within a component is a struggle
    • Moving elements around the page has become more difficult as the app seems to not be able to keep up with repeated nudges, it freezes, then the component jump across the page
    • Clicking and dragging across the page is also very slow - I click and drag then have to hold the mouse while I wait for the app to catch up and draw the drag box and make the multiple component selection.
  • I did restart figma, it seems to have sped up slightly but it still doesn’t feel like it did in early May.

I’ve experienced something similar a while back. One thing that helped me was disabling hardware acceleration in the Figma desktop app settings, might be worth a try if you haven’t already. Also, check if any recent OS updates were installed around the time the issue started; sometimes those can affect app performance.

By the way, if you’re ever interested in exploring app development or related solutions, I came across this service that might be useful: https://ideamaker.agency/ios-app-development-services/

If that doesn’t help, you could also try running the app as administrator or checking the system resource usage while Figma is open to see if something else is causing the slowdown.

I’ve deleted the desktop app. So slow compared to the browser app.

Hi everyone, I’m really sorry for the late response here, and thank you for flagging this!

@jjeffrie, I really appreciate the detailed description you shared. To get this properly investigated, I’d recommend reaching out to our support team using this form. It would also be great if you could include a desktop app debug log, so our technical quality team can dig into what’s causing the slowdown.

@Ken_Sayers, I also recommend to reach out to our support team and share a desktop app debug log with the team.

If you run into any trouble submitting a ticket or need a hand with the process, just let me know, I’m happy to help!
