Text variable mode unlinks when resizing a component

Schelto

In our company, we use font variables for our three types of branding.

We build components using the font variables to make sure everyone uses the correct branding and components.

Recently we discovered that - when resizing a component - the font variables are fixed to the branding of ‘Mode 1’.

It can’t be switched back on, except when you Detach the Component.

Is this expected behavior? Can it be looked at?

New update:

Engineering was able to take a look and figure out what was happening. After speaking with them, I can confirm that this is actually a known bug that has already been filed.

At the moment, there isn’t a timeline I can provide on when this will be addressed, but it is on the list of things to review. I can’t think of a workaround at the moment, but I’m going to leave this topic open in case someone on the forum has had a similar experience and can provide info.

I hope this was helpful! If you have any other questions, feel free to create a new topic 😁

Hiya @Schelto! I passed your report over to our engineering team to review, and they weren’t able to reproduce the behavior. They need more information on how your design is set up to dig into this better.

Are you able to do one of the following?

  1. Share edit access to a file you see the variables change? If so, please share edit access to support-share@figma.com, and let me know the name of the file.
  2. Capture a screen recording that features the whole Figma window when things shift. If you can do that, please do link it to us in your method of choice (Google Drive, Loom, etc.)

Let me know! Thank you.

Thank you! I’ve forwarded this to the engineer I’m in contact with.

One last question - what font are you using at the beginning of the video, and then what font does it turn into? It *looks* like it turns into a separate one, but correct me if I’m wrong 😅

EDIT: actually, another question -- is it resizing in general, or specifically scaling the node?
