Text input completely broken in Figma

Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing a severe issue with text input in Figma.

Symptoms:

  • I cannot type in new text layers (T → click does nothing)

  • I cannot edit existing text (double-click doesn’t activate the cursor)

  • I cannot select text inside a layer

  • The tool sometimes switches automatically when I try to type

  • The issue happens across all files, even brand-new ones

  • The issue happens in both my accounts

  • Keyboard works perfectly in all other applications on my Mac

What I already tested:

  • Updated browsers and Desktop app

  • Reset Figma (Help → Troubleshooting → Reset Figma and Restart)

  • Cleared all caches

  • Disabled all extensions

  • Restarted macOS

  • Switched keyboard layouts

  • No font warnings in any file

This means:

It’s not a file issue, not an account issue, not a browser issue.
It seems like a deeper bug in the Figma client on macOS.

Could someone from the Figma team take a look or tell me how to collect logs for debugging?

Hi ​@Kriscreates, thanks for reaching out! 

Besides text, are you able to edit in Figma at all? I took a look at the email address associated with your forum account, and while you are the owner of a team, it looks like your subscription has you in a View only seat, which may explain why you’re not able to add text. Do you have any other Figma subscriptions with other email addresses?  

Please confirm at your earliest convenience, so I know how to assist you from there.

Oh, I have exactly the same problem. I only noticed it on my new MacBook Pro M5, because on my other devices I can edit text and everything works fine 🥲

I’m also experiencing this after the more recent update (126.4.11).

I can’t edit any existing text fields, but I can create new ones and edit those. The layers are not locked. I have restarted and refreshed.

Just a quick note: while the issues sound similar, the original report in this thread is over 6 months old and was related to a user who couldn't create or edit any text at all. Based on what you've described, this may be a different issue as one of you mentioned being able to create and edit new text layers but not existing ones.

Could you please submit a bug report to our Technical Quality team so they can investigate further? To do that: Go to the Support Hub / Type “Report a bug” / Click Start a chat and select Enter and follow the prompts.

In the form, include the URL of the file and grant "Can View" access with support-share@figma.com This allows us to reproduce the issue and investigate, thanks!

When submitting, please include:

  • The URL of the affected file and grant "Can View" access with support-share@figma.com (this allows us to reproduce the issue and investigate)
  • Your macOS version
  • Whether you're using the Desktop app, browser, or both
  • A screen recording of the behavior if possible
  • Any steps that consistently reproduce the issue
