Recently, tap-to-click interactions have been broken in FigJam for me. I first noticed it 4 weeks ago and again it re-emerged this week.

Observation: tap-to-click is not working. I have to use the button of my trackpad to select something.

Troubleshooting:

  • I’ve confirmed tap-to-click is working in other apps on my computer
  • I’ve quit and re-opened the Figma desktop app
  • I’ve toggled all settings and see no change

Has anyone else noticed this? It’s leading me to explore other whitebaord options that support my interaction patterns

Hi Erin, Brendan from the product team at Figma here, I’ve just flagged this to the team to see what’s up!

Hi Erin, thanks for reaching out! Our team hasn’t been able to reproduce the tap-to-click issue so far, but we’d definitely like to get to the bottom of this.

Could you answer some questions to help us investigate further?

  1. What device and operating system are you using?
  2. What version of the Figma desktop app are you using (e.g. version 125.8.8)?
  3. Are you using a trackpad for tapping, or some other form of input (e.g. Apple Pen)?
  4. Does this issue still occur if you access FigJam through a browser (and if so, which browser)?
  5. Does this issue impact all of your FigJam files (existing and new), or only specific files?
  6. Does this issue impact any other Figma file types (e.g. Design, Slides), or only FigJam?
  7. Can you share a few specific interactions in FigJam that are not working (e.g. selecting a Section object on the canvas)?

Thanks so much!

I’m so glad someone else has brought this up. My issues started on September 10th. Unrelatedly, my work laptop died and when I got the new one, tap to click worked again but only for a few hours. Nothing I do seems to fix it and it drives me crazy. And it’s only in the Figma/FigJam/Slides canvas. I can tap to click in Figma menus and side panels just fine.

I know I’m not Erin but I can answer the above questions for what’s happening to me:

  1. MacBook Pro M3, Sequoia 15.6.1
  2. 125.4.8
  3. Apple external trackpad (this doesn’t seem to be an issue with the built-in trackpad but it was before I got my new laptop)
  4. Yes, it’s the same in the desktop app, Safari, and Chrome
  5. All files
  6. Figma, FigJam, Slides are the only ones I use and I can’t tap to click the canvas in any of them
  7. So normally to select an object I’d tap to click on the object. When I hover the object box lights up but when I tap, it’s like I did nothing. If I hard click, it selects the object. Likewise, if I tap to click the background to deselect it, nothing happens, I have to hard click. Another solution is that I can double-tap to click to select an object. Or deselect by double-tap to clicking the background.

Like Erin, I’ve restarted, toggled my settings, disconnected and reconnected the trackpad, nothing works.

Interestingly, the “use trackpad for dragging” selection I have checked in the System Preferences under Accessibility works just fine in the canvas. I don’t have to hard click to drag.
