Hi, @stephanie.jones6 👋 Happy to help dig into it.

Can share is a quick screenshot or short screen recording of what happens in Chrome or the Figma Desktop app when it fails? A blank canvas, a spinner that never finishes, an error message, or a crash all point us in very different directions, so seeing it makes a big difference.

A couple of quick questions:

  • What exactly happens when it "won't work"—a blank screen, endless loading, an error, or an immediate crash?

  • Which macOS version did you update to, and is your Chrome fully up to date?

One thing worth checking in the meantime: Safari and Chrome (and Figma Desktop) use different rendering engines, so an OS update occasionally trips up hardware acceleration in Chrome-based apps. Toggling Use hardware acceleration when available off in Chrome's settings (Settings > System) and restarting is a quick thing to rule out.

Looking forward to seeing what you find! — Jaycee

Hey I just see a black screen - this is the view on Chrome and on desktop app.

I have tried all troubleshooting

Talking directly to terminal to clear cache

Reinstalling app

Updating Figma and Chrome

Nothing works.

I can use Figma on Firefox but not on app or Chrome.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as even my IT department are stumped!

Hey @stephanie.jones6 👋 Thanks for the screenshot and details the troubleshooting you’ve already tried. I want to get you connected to support. While I get the ticket for you can you try one thing and grab a a screenshot of the result, please?

Could you go to chrome://gpu in Chrome and screenshot the Graphics Feature Status block at the top? The line I'm most interested in is WebGL — whether it says Hardware accelerated, Software only, or Disabled. That may give support a clue into what is happening (or not happening in this case).
My example

If it does come back as disabled, this article has the fix: Configure your browser for Figma. If it's already hardware accelerated, we'll dig in a different direction. Talk soon! — Jaycee
