Suddenly lost access to files I created myself

Hi,

I’m experiencing a strange account-specific access issue and would appreciate some guidance from the Figma team.

Yesterday I suddenly lost access to two design files that I created myself.

  • I use only one Figma account and I’m logged into the correct email address.
  • One of the files was actively edited just before the issue occurred.
  • Both files now show “Request access to this Design file.”
  • They no longer appear in Recents and are not in Trash.
  • My other shared files still work normally.
  • The same issue occurs both in the desktop app and in the browser.

I didn’t change ownership, move the files, or modify any permissions.

Is there any way for the Figma team to check which workspace currently owns these files or what might have caused my account to lose access?

Hi @msmdione - sorry to hear about this! Happy to help.

I think one thing to note is that if you shared edit access to these files with other team mates, they can exercise some higher-level permissions. Meaning, they would be able to move the file to another team or project that you may not have access to. Please review some documentation here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040530793-Remove-or-adjust-access and https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500007609322-Guide-to-sharing-and-permissions#h_01K6P8WKVY22KPSZNKGQK0QFRH.

I wanted to double-check if that could be the case -- you mentioned you didn’t modify permissions, and I wasn’t sure if that meant you hadn’t shared it with anyone at all.

With that in mind, I can take a look to see if I can find more info. Can you tell me the name of the file[s] that you can’t access anymore? If you are able to share the direct URL to them, that would be helpful. You can PM me that info if you’d prefer to not share those publicly. Thank you!
