Hi Figma Support,

I'm experiencing an issue where left-clicking on objects on the canvas stops working — I can't select objects by clicking on them. The problem occurs both in the Figma desktop app and in the browser version, and it also happens when using the trackpad, so it doesn't seem to be related to my mouse.

The bug is intermittent: sometimes clicking works fine, then it stops working for a while, and later starts working again without any obvious pattern. Other interactions (scrolling, panning, keyboard shortcuts) seem to work normally when this happens.

My setup:

  • Device: MacBook Pro
  • OS: macOS 26.5.2
  • Browser: chrome

Could you help me figure out what's causing this? Let me know if you need any additional information, screen recordings, or console logs.

Thank you!

Hey @lbj23, welcome to Figma Forum and thanks for flagging this!

Wanted to run this by you as a first check: This sounds similar to something a handful of designers raised earlier, where one of them got canvas selection working again by opening Preferences and enabling Ctrl+click Opens Right Click Menus. The best answer from @Jonny Bergström here walks through it: Unable to select any objects or frames. One difference to call out — in that case, the Desktop App was working normally and only the browser was affected. I understand you're seeing this in both, so it may not be the same root cause. Either way, please let us know what happens. 🙏🏻

For what it's worth, I tested on a MacBook as well and wasn't able to pin down the behavior you described.

If that doesn't unblock this, we'd love a closer look. You can share a screen recording and the console logs you mentioned securely with the Technical Quality team via the Support Hub. Begin a chat with typing in "Report a bug" and include as much detail on when it happens as you can. Please include the file URL and share it with support-share@figma.com with view access so we can reproduce it

Thanks again — we'll keep watch for further reports and updates.
