Students repeatedly losing access to shared FigJam folder despite already having edit permission
Hi everyone,
I’m an instructor using Figma/FigJam during my classes and I’m running into an ongoing permissions issue that’s becoming difficult to manage during live lectures.
I have a folder containing the FigJam boards we use in class. My students need to be able to open these boards, edit them, and add sticky notes while I’m teaching.
I’ve already added all of their emails through “Share this folder” with edit access. However, I’m seeing a few problems:
- Some students are still asked to request access even though their email is already listed on the folder.
- I’ll approve their request or try adding their email again, only to find that they were already added previously.
- Even when I make a board public for 24 hours and approve a student on the spot, some students still can’t access or edit it.
- This has happened repeatedly rather than being a one-time permissions issue.
There’s also a related Education account problem affecting some students. A few are having difficulty getting their Figma Education status approved, and some are 17-year-old university students who seem unable to get Education access until they turn 18. I’ve directed students to Figma support and solutions I’ve found on the forums, but these issues can take a while to resolve.
At this point, I’m spending a significant amount of class time troubleshooting Figma access instead of teaching.
What I’m trying to understand is:
Is there a reliable way for an instructor to create a FigJam folder or set of boards where an entire class can consistently have edit access without students repeatedly needing to request permission?
And if Education verification is still pending or unavailable for a student, is there a supported way for that student to participate in an instructor’s FigJam boards in the meantime?
Any guidance would be really appreciated. I’d ideally like to set this up once at the beginning of the course rather than troubleshoot individual student permissions during every class.
Thanks!
Jarell
