Question

Smart Animate causes full-page position jump in both browser and desktop app

Hello, I'm experiencing an issue with Smart Animate in Figma prototypes. When a Smart Animate transition occurs, the entire phone-frame page visibly jumps or shifts before settling. The issue occurs in both the browser-based prototype viewer and the Figma desktop app.

Expected behaviour:
The prototype should transition smoothly between frames without the entire page shifting unexpectedly.

Actual behaviour:

  • In the browser, the entire page jumps to the right during Smart Animate transition in preview mode; and in present mode, it jumps upwards.

  • In the desktop app, the entire page jumps upwards during Smart Animate transition in preview mode; and in present mode, it jumps downwards.

  • Instant and Dissolve transitions work normally without any visible jumping.

  • The issue occurs even in a minimal test prototype containing only a rectangle where the rectangle's fill colour is the only intended design change.

Troubleshooting already performed:

  1. Recreated the issue using a basic rectangle in duplicated phone frames.

  2. Ensured corresponding layers have matching names and structure.

  3. Tested Smart Animate in both the browser and desktop app.

  4. Tested Instant and Dissolve in both environments; neither produced the jump.

  5. Changed the prototype content scale to Fixed size, but the issue persisted.

  6. Checked the layout and Auto Layout settings in my original design.

The issue is preventing me from creating a smooth task-completion animation for my to-do app. I would appreciate your help determining whether this is a Smart Animate bug or whether there is another configuration I should investigate.

I am using Windows 11 operating system, Google chrome Version 156.0.8078.48 (Official Build) (64-bit) and my Figma app is Version 126.10.10.0

I have attached a screen recording of the issue and here is the link to the Figma file. Thank you.
