Share dialog no longer shows viewers or people with access to my files

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to determine whether this is a bug, an account-specific issue, or an intentional product change.

For the past 1–2 months, my Figma files no longer display the collaborator/viewer indicator in the Share dialog.

Previously, when I clicked Share, I could:

  • See how many people were currently viewing the file.
  • See the users who had view access to the file (including non-team members if they had access).
  • Remove people who no longer needed access.

Now, the Share dialog only shows entries such as:

  • Anyone → Can view
  • Owner

The list of users with access and the viewer indicator are no longer visible.

I’ve confirmed that:

  • The issue occurs in both the Figma desktop app (macOS) and the browser (Safari).
  • It affects multiple files, not just one.
  • It started approximately 1–2 months ago.
  • Restarting the app, using a different browser, and signing in again did not change the behaviour.

I also found another Reddit post from a user describing what appears to be the same issue, where a Figma team member responded.

Has anyone else experienced this recently?

If this is an intentional change, could someone from the Figma team clarify whether the collaborator/viewer indicator has been removed? If it’s a bug, is there a known workaround or an ongoing investigation?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @Ferdinand Olawale, thanks for reaching out about this!

I completely understand why this would affect your workflow, but I’m not aware of any recent changes to this capability. A couple of things that'll help us pin down what's happening:

  1. Are you the owner of these files, or do you have edit/view access on someone else's file? The list of people with access typically only shows for owners and editors.
  2. Could you check Settings → Account → View history and let us know if it's set to On or Off? If it's off, that would explain the missing viewer indicator, since that setting applies account-wide.
  3. When you say the list only shows "Anyone → Can view" and "Owner" — are those the only two rows, even on files you know have other named collaborators with individual roles?

In the meantime, here's our help doc on viewer history. It may be worth a quick look since there are a couple of nuances (like it only tracking logged-in team/org members, and viewer history living in the avatar stack in the top right rather than the Share dialog itself) that might explain part of what you're seeing.
