Hey everyone,

I've been experiencing a persistent bug with the Scale tool (K) that's significantly interrupting my workflow.

Here's how it normally works and where the bug occurs:

  1. Expected Behavior (Working as intended):

    • I press K to activate the Scale tool.

    • I scale the object.

    • I press Escape or Enter to apply the changes.

    • The tool works perfectly.

  2. The Bug:

    • I press K to activate the Scale tool.

    • I scale the object.

    • Instead of pressing Enter/Escape, I click anywhere else on the canvas to deselect the object or shift focus. (This is where I suspect the tool enters a 'limbo' state; the panel reverts to normal, but the scale tool isn't properly closed, even though this behavior worked fine previously.)

    • When I then try to use the Scale tool (K) again on any object, the anchor point squares (the small boxes that control the scaling origin) turn grey, and the tool completely stops functioning. Clicking on anything doesn't re-enable it.

Workaround: The only way to fix this is to reload the Figma tab.

This bug is quite disruptive, as it forces a reload often.

Thanks for your help!

Hi @DiegoN,

I understand you're encountering a problem with the Scale tool, specifically in the scenario where clicking away from the object causes the anchor points to turn grey and the tool to stop functioning, requiring a tab reload.

I've tried to replicate this on my end using both scenarios you described, but I haven't been able to reproduce the issue with the anchor points.

I also noted that our guide on scaling layers mentions pressing Enter/Return to apply changes, which aligns with your expected behavior for scenario 1: Scale layers while maintaining proportions

To allow our team to investigate this further, I'll go ahead and create a support ticket on your behalf with the information you've already provided.

Our support team will be in touch to assist you with this matter. You'll receive an email about the new ticket at the email address we have on file for your account soon.

Once you receive the email, please provide a video recording demonstrating this issue with your full Figma screen. This will help our team understand exactly what you're seeing and will greatly assist in finding a quicker resolution.

Thanks,

I have encountered the same issue and reloading the tab fixes it.

Thanks, Melisa. Yup, it works but with large, heavy files it’s a bit annoying to do it often. Luckily the technical quality specialist who’s helping me with this issue (thanks, Joann 😊) found a simpler workaround. This is part of the message she sent me.

I was able to reproduce the issue on my end, and I've flagged this to our engineering team for further investigation. I also noticed that the anchor points were re-enabled if I drag the corners of the square while on the scale tool.

Hope it works for you too 🙂
