"Recent prompts" option missing from AI image generation/editing after latest update

Bring back the promt history

I've found a second regression in the same update.

Before, while the image generation panel was open, I could click a "+" on any image or frame on the canvas, and it was added as a reference automatically. That option is gone too, and adding references now takes considerably more steps.

Together with the missing "Recent prompts" history, this makes iterating on AI images much slower than before.

Hello. Since the latest UI3 updates, the native AI image generation and editing tool has suffered two major usability regressions that significantly slow down my workflow:

1. Missing Prompt History: The "Recent prompts" history (the clock icon) is completely gone from the new floating toolbar. Every time I need to reuse or tweak a complex prompt on a new image, I am forced to retype everything from scratch.
2. Missing Quick References (+): Before, while the image generation panel was open, I could simply click a "+" icon on any image or frame on the canvas to add it as a reference automatically. That option has been removed, and adding references now takes considerably more steps.

Together, these changes make iterating on AI images much slower and more frustrating than before. Please restore the recent prompts history tab and the quick canvas reference tool as soon as possible. Thank you.

I have been a Figma user for five years. While the AI features introduced in previous updates were not perfect but functional and had decent interactivity, the recent AI updates have become extremely difficult to use, resulting in a poor user experience and low efficiency. I have a few concerns: first, why were the "History Prompts" feature and the direct-click-to-add-images-on-boards functionality removed? This was a very foolish decision. Second, all generated images now only come in a 1:1 aspect ratio, which is entirely counterintuitive. Previously, at least the aspect ratio could be adjusted based on stretching, even if it wasn’t always perfect, but it still worked. Why has it become this way? This isn’t about user habits—you outright removed existing features. I hope you’ll consider my feedback. Thank you🙏

Hey ​@Bao Do, welcome to Figma Forum and thanks for providing the screenshot of what you’re seeing. I can understand how losing that quick + for adding canvas references would impact your workflow. I’ve merged your post here since it comes from the same update as the “Recent prompts” issue, and others on this thread have raised it too.

I’ve passed this feedback to the team, and they’re aware of both changes. I can’t share a timeline yet, but I’ll post here when there’s an update. Thanks for your continued patience, everyone.

Echoing the sentiment here, this is a massive downgrade that makes these tools almost unusable
