We are trying to use our internal React packages in Figma Make, but its not working due to Figma Make using React 18, and our packages require React 19. The AI has tried to upgrade but its saying that React 18 is bundled with the preview iframe and cannot be upgraded. How can I get around this?

Hey everyone, good news: you can now use React 19 in newly-created Make files! Thanks for your patience while our team works on it!

We met the same limitation. Is there any ETA for when you will upgrade to React 19 internally? How can this lay dormant for 3 months?

Hey @Mattis Abrahamsson and @Benjamin  👋 Thank you very much for sharing your feedback and letting us know how this is blocking your work. I’ve passed this directly to the Figma Make team. While I can't promise a specific outcome, I’ll keep a close eye on this and update you here as soon as I receive any news. — Jaycee

Hey @Jaycee Lewis - are there any news after those big announcements at Config? Can’t imagine that Figma still relies on a 2 year old React version for all those new products.

Hey, one month passed again and we have no update. Can you please at least confirm the existence of the problem and that it really is related to React being outdated?

Hey @Benjamin, thanks for following up! Stepping in for @Celyn_L and @Jaycee Lewis here.

I checked in with the Engineering team, and they're still working through the rollout (for React 19 support).

I don't have any additional details to share just yet, but we'll post an update here as soon as we do. Thanks for your patience!

Hey @Celine_ thank you for your reply! It would be much much appreciated if you let me know here, as you stated, when the rollout is completed, so we could try again to publish our Make kit. Thank you in advance!

Hey, you still state in the guidelines for Make kits:

Requirements

Your design system package must meet these requirements:

  • React 18
  • Compatible with Vite
  • Published as an npm package:
    • Public package: Published to the npm public registry
    • Private package: Published to a Figma-maintained npm registry private to your organization

https://developers.figma.com/docs/code/bring-your-design-system-package/#requirements

So I still can’t create a new one with our React 19 npm package as base.

Hi, @Benjamin - stepping in for @Celine_! Thank you for flagging that in our developer documentation - I can see how that would be confusing.

Did you try using React 19 and are still unable to use that as your base, or have you not tried because of what the documentation states? I flagged the article to our team so we can get that updated. Having said that, let us know if you are unable to do this in a new Make file, or if you can but are running into issues. Happy to help.
