Question

Prototype vertical scrolling not working in figma slides

Prototypes embedded in Figma Slides no longer allow full vertical scrolling during presentation, even though vertical scrolling works correctly when the prototype is played directly. This appears to be a regression, as the same slides and prototypes worked previously.

Whats happening:

In the past, I’ve been able to embed interactive prototypes into Figma Slides and present them with full vertical scrolling enabled.

Today, I created a new slide deck and added a prototype, but the vertical canvas scroll does not work as expected during slide presentation, despite working correctly when the prototype is played on its own.

After noticing this, I went back and checked older slide decks where this behavior previously worked, and I’m now seeing the same scrolling issue there as well.

Current behaviour for me:

  • Scrolling only works within the initial height that was loaded when the slide was presented.
  • If the prototype includes interactions that increase content height (e.g. expanding sections, accordions), scrolling is only possible up to the originally loaded area, not beyond it.
  • You can scroll back to where the page initially loaded, but cannot scroll past that point.
  • This issue now affects both newly created slides and older slides that previously worked.

Expected behaviour/past behaviour :

Embedded prototypes should support full vertical scrolling, consistent with normal prototype playback.

Hi @Tim.E, thanks for flagging this issue!

I completely understand how this must be affecting your workflow. May I ask if you noticed this issue on or before March 20th?

Are you able to share a URL link to your file and provide support-share@figma.com with Can View access?

With the file link, I can pass this onto our Slides team to investigate further.

I just discovered this exact same issue in a previously created Slides presentation! I’m preparing for a upcoming presentation to senior leadership and vertical scrolling in the imported prototype does not work anymore. I’ve attempted to re-import the prototype but the problem persists!

Description of behavior:

  •  Prototype scrolling does not respond when using finger-slide gesture on mouse/trackpad.
  •  It does work when mouse is clicked-and-moved, however any sticky elements are no longer recognize as sticky; all content scrolls as if one combined screen.

@djv - Can you please provide an update from the Figma support team? This is critical!

Thank you!

Hi @Steved1 - stepping in for @djv.

I’m sorry to hear this is impacting your presentation with senior leadership! I can see why this is critical for you. In your original design file, are you using clip content on a group or frame? I’m wondering if this is specific to how the content clipping is set up.

Are you able to share the file with view access to support-share@figma.com? This won’t affect your billing at all and will give us something we can take to our team to investigate. You could also make a duplicate and share that instead if the issue is present in the duplicate. Thanks!

 Hi @adamsmasher,

Thanks for stepping in and offering to investigate this issue. I’ve prepared a copy of both the Slides page with the embedded prototype, titled “Prototype Error Test”, as well as the source Figma Design file with the prototype itself, titled “Prototype for Slides Error Test. I’ve tested this duplicate Slides file and the issue exists in there as well. I’ve invited support-share@figma.com to both. Hopefully, the team can dissect it to reveal the issue.

And to restate, I built the prototype and Slides files about a year ago and they worked just fine, as expected. It was within the past month that I revisited the Slides file to rehearse and found the scrolling functionality to be broken.

Description of behavior:

When in Presenter mode, the embedded prototype does not behave as intended:

  • Prototype scrolling does not respond when using finger-slide gesture on mouse/trackpad (only when mouse is pressed and held)
  • All sticky elements scroll with content
  • When landed on, some pages default lower down the page, not at the intended top

Thanks Adam and Figma Support Team for looking into the issue.

Hi again, @Steved1. Thank you for sending me a private message; I wanted to reply here but also acknowledge that I did receive the message.

I just submitted a ticket on your behalf to our support team so they can take a closer look (#1878816). Feel free to reply to that email with any other information that you think is relevant; in particular, I would include links to the Design file and the Slides file copies that you made. I realized after making the ticket that I included a link to your forum post because I didn’t notice it wasn’t a file link. 😅

Thanks for your patience, and let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks @adamsmasher. I’m glad you saw my message and have submitted the ticket to the Figma Support Team.

For security/privacy reasons, I did not include a link to the actual Figma files in this forum. However, I did share the files (as you recommended above) with support-share@figma.com. Hopefully, the team can identify those as related to this post.

Thanks!
