Question

problems understanding the new Collab seat and project permissions

gregoleto

i need help, how do i add new collab seats to existing projects if there’s only “can view” or “can edit” permissions?

just turned to collab seat some of the people from my team, but then they can’t access projects and create files.
i invited them to projects with “can view” permission but they can’t create files.
when i switched them to “can edit”, they can create files, but not only figjam, they can create design files as well.

Hey @gregoleto,

Happy to help clarify how multi-product seats work!

  • You’ve already gone through the first step - turned users from your team to Collab seat.
This lets users edit files in FigJam and Figma Slides once they are given access to those files.
  • The next step is to give users the right permissions on the files or projects you want them to have access to.
I find the article Guide to sharing and permissions quite handy when it comes to figuring out how to share files and projects.
💡 Tip: To create files in a project, users will need "can edit" permissions on the project.

Would you be able to double check:

  1. the seat type of users who can also create Figma Design files
  2. what permissions have they been given to those files or projects?
  3. are they perhaps editing in their Drafts?

I want to make sure we are not overlooking anything here. Let me know and, if you are still finding issues, I will connect you with our support team.

@seni  My collab seats can create files within existing projects with no problem, as long as they have editing permissions on that project (as you mentioned).

What we are finding troubling is that they can’t create projects of their own? Or no setup options for an admin to allow them to do so. That creates bottle necks in our team as collabs depend on other team members with design seats to create projects for them.
